x30C: Continuity Episode

"Why are we assuming that this is the only copy of these schematics?" Dorat says "I mean really, why would anyone give away the only copy of something so exceptionally valuable, even as a prize? Plus, offense intended," He said gesturing toward Rotta, "the Hutts aren't exactly the sharpest knives in the drawer so they probably didn't design this thing and unless the person who did is dead it might not be as rare and wondrous as we're imagining it is here."

F0-X1

Fox beeps and whirs a bit before begudgingly activating its vocabulator, "We should build it to crush the empire. Pool Naru's winnings and destroy the empire and the other-empire too."

Rane examines the schematics with some interest, but doesn't seem quite as invested as some of the others.

"It's definitely Imperial technology, that much is certain and likely stolen," he remarks. "But I don't recognize the designer insignia."

(Not during this discussion)

Among has volunteered to do some advance scout work for Rynah on a number of jungle worlds. Tag has let him go, feeling that Among's talents are best used elsewhere.

Cato Neimoidia News Network (CNNN)Our top story tonight: Captain Edvar Mentel was killed in a tragic accident earlier this evening, when the Imperial Sector Security Officer, going above and beyond the call of duty, crashed his transport while in pursuit of terrorist insurgents in the city of Zarra. Captain Mentel took charge of the strike team which, in no small part due to his efforts, was able to successfully apprehend the agitators, seizing a large cache of illegal weaponry, spice, and rescuing 16 child slaves, including 3 Cato Neimoidians in the process.

First emergency responders to the scene reported that the Captain likely died on impact, adding that massive burns and damage to the officer's body made positive identification impossible.

"Captain Mentel served as an example to his peers. His sacrifice will not be forgotten," said a statement from the office of the regent. "He was a true hero."

Grey

Grey takes some time and starts making lists, based on the information on ADAM.

"ADAM? ADAM? I was rather hoping to name it DARYL," thinks Grey at one point.

How much is the total material cost estimate?
How much of that cost is rare or unique materials?
What are the rare and unique materials?
How big is the system?
How many man-hours are needed to build it?
How big is the programming? Is the programming already complete?

And, can the data on the datapad be copied to create a backup?

How much is the total material cost estimate?
Retail, approximately 3.5 million credits to build the core processing unit.

How much of that cost is rare or unique materials?
Almost all of it. The technology is readily available, but is mostly restricted to military and government. The sub-component parts are difficult to manufacture, made of valuable raw materials and produced in limited quantities.

What are the rare and unique materials?
Microelectronic components produced by various super-corporations.

How big is the system?
The system can be made as small as a datapad or as large as the Express' storage bay. It is designed to coordinate as many processing units as it is directly connected to to serve it's function, and with more processing power, the more efficiently it can work.

How many man-hours are needed to build it?
Provided all the necessary parts are available, a team of engineers lead by a specialist can complete the work in one standard month.

How big is the programming? Is the programming already complete?
The schematics do include an encrypted section of code. Use Computer, DC 35 to decipher.

Can the data on the datapad be copied to create a backup?
Yes, provided Naru's player token is in proximity of the datapad.

Grey

Knowledge in hand, Grey begins to work.

He first makes a copy of the entire datapad, tossing the original back in Naru's room and keeping his with him. The original is Naru's, in Grey's world, and he doesn't steal from friends. Everyone else is fair game.

With that taken care of, the next vulnerability is the token. Grey sits down, asking Dorat to help him, and looks at way to copy the electronics of the token, and the radio transmitter, into a new device. A backup of the datapad is only valuable as long as they have a backup of the token.

Finished with that, Grey makes another copy of the datapad, but this time omits the programming information and a bit of the core processor from the design. If they get attacked and have to "give up" a copy, this would be the copy they would surrender. He tries to change the encryption to not work with Naru's token. With that in mind, and knowing the fake datapad is only as good as the token to decode it, Grey will try to create a similar token from fresh programming that functions in a similar way.

By now Grey hasn't showered in a long time, so he takes a bit of time to make fun of Rotta.

Completed, Grey should have a complete backup of the token and the original, one with Naru and one with himself. He should have a fake datapad and token that has a lot of the programming but not the key components- it should be enough to fool most people who only have a brief time to glance at it.

With all that finished, Grey sits down and begins to think on where he wants to build it, or how he wants it to look. FL-0 serves him a few wookiee mooncakes while he contemplates.

Earlier...

This Gammorean woman is definitely the svelte kind, but she's still got two angry-looking tusks jutting from her mouth. She's also clad in solid-looking armor and has a huge vibro-axe on her back, so she's probably not someone to mess with. Her hair is close-cropped and no-nonsense; her eyes squint suspiciously as she stomps over to the Express and spots Grey lingering outside.

In Gamorrean she asks, "Are you the Captain?"

Grey

Earlier...

Grey looks at the Gammorean, a question on his face. Wookiee: "Rotta is down in the hold in his shop, I think." He goes back to what he was doing.
