Rella Toffin

There is little about her physical appearance itself that would draw undue attention to Rella. Her flat hair is a dull brown, her slight build is boyishly nondescript, and while her facial features are fine, they are far from memorable. Instead, it is her carriage and her poise which mark her as a person of great import. She is upright and proud in bearing, carrying her tiny frame as if she were twice the height of bigger folk. She dresses for battle at all times, with armor and weapons maintained in fully-functional readiness. And the shaggy silver-maned she-wolf she rides only magnifies the impression that -- despite her size -- she is not one to be trifled with.

Rella's typical halfling temerity expresses itself in a self-confidence that borders on benign tyranny. She brooks little nonsense, and bends before no one. She is tough on herself and expects the same from others. Nonetheless, she is capable of tender compassion and mercy, but only toward those whom she deems truly deserve it -- the weak and the helpless. To most others, however, she is a rather hard taskmaster -- if only because she demands nothing but excellence from anyone whom she feels is capable of achieving it.

The Toffin family is well-established in the Rostland, having worked for generations as stable-hands, animal husbands, groomers, handlers, and trainers of horses, ponies, falcons, and other beasts belonging to the minor nobility and Aldori swordlords of south Brevoy. Rella herself is deeply steeped in the simple sensibilities of Brevic common-folk -- hard work winning well-deserved gains, the importance of charity and compassion, and the value of personal and familial honor. Having been raised in the region famous for the great Aldori swordlords, she has received a lifetime of tales regaling their noble, undaunted spirit, and championing their heroic deeds and exciting adventures.

As a young girl, Rella dreamed and played at becoming a swordlord herself -- but the chances that a little folk with commoners' blood and a working-class trade would actually be accepted among their rank is slim-to-none. At first this produced in her only a seething anger and resentment, but she soon redirected those energies toward another, similar, goal -- to become not a swordlord, but a true Brevic Knight. Of course, she undertook the challenge in her own thoroughly Toffin-esque manner.

Training a wild she-wolf to serve as her mount, Rella pledged herself to a life of courage, justice, and valor for the greater glory of Brevoy -- and for the good of little people everywhere. Shortly thereafter, the call for champions willing to expand Brevoy’s influence into the Stolen Lands was given. Spurred on by her sense of patriotism and honor, Rella eagerly joined in the expedition to quest southward.
