Dark low magic world of medieval fantasy

This is a game inspired by Game of Thrones, the Paladin manga, Slavic, and especially Russian kingdoms, the Pumpkin Scissors manga and Inhabited Island. It's most of all inspired by a high level gestalt game I ran some time ago in the same setting (but 10 years later in the chronology of this world) that never quite took off
You will be a band of unlikely heroes in a land torn apart by civil war.
There is, however an emphasis on the hero part. It's meant to be a good game in a grey/black morality world

Game Description:

This is a game where you play a band of warriors fighting against evil, but with a the twist that you will be "unlikely heroes", something I hope you will reflect in your background

Now, before getting to setting, the character creation and so on, there are a few important things to mention:
1. Humans are the only playable race in the game
2. The setting has only one available god to worship, Svarog. All others are devils (not considered. Are!)
3. I always gm in a grey morality, not a black and white. This means that you will have to make moral judgements, it will not be clear cut. I'm particularly fond of paladins that will try to remain good in a grey morality world (good is prioritized above law)
4. No psionics

This are the limitations:
lvl 10, 50 point buy, no stats above 18 at first lvl, excluding racial bonuses
half hp each lvl
only tier 3 or lower characters. tier system: link
wealth by lvl
no psionics or tome of battle
The groups purpose will be good aligned, but you can be neutral or evil as long as you have a strong motivation to follow the group and aid it and its causes
Players handbook 1 & 3
All Complete books are ok
Unearthed Arcana
Book of Vile Deeds, Book of Exalted Deeds
Libris Mortis
Fiendish Codex 1 & 2
Dmg

Request anything else, but no books bringing in new mechanics, like Tome of Battle / Tome of Magic / Complete Psionics

I am thinking of being an evil bastard; but one connected to one of the other characters to whom he owes a debt or is somehow bound to him. He does the things that needs to be done that that person will not lower himself to do, often without informing that person he was doing it. Very much a dark knight.

Well, that could work, but only if I can pair you off with someone who is playing a good character, not a neutral one.

Yeah, I am sure someone will be willing to combine backgrounds.....hopefully lol.

Actually, I'd be willing to play a good person you owe something to. I was actually thinking that an orphan child would be a nice fit for the unlikely hero in a game of this setting. Is that an acceptable concept?

Question: Does a Beggar Knight have to have a level in actual knight? Meaning, can a duskblade be a Beggar Knight?

Anyone can become a Beggar Knight. But you get a limitation on what you can own that will be a modified version of the vow of poverty from BoED.
An orphan child could work

I figured that; but wondered if armor and weapons was part of what was allowed? I was imagining it as something like the AD&D paladin where you could only have a limited about of items and could only keep so much gold.

A knight pledged to protect a young girl; perhaps she was the orphaned daughter of a comrade he had pledged to. He swore to protect her and teach her the ways of Svarog, as they traveled through the land.

If you can give the specifics on the Beggar Knight I would appreciate it, like if I have to take a feat or something. I will work on the background and everything now.

I recall applying to this game before, convincing you to run it, and then not getting invited. What happened to the group you had been running it with?

They are splitting up in 2 parts, so I want some supplementary players. The requirements on background, which was our point of disagreement, still stands

You have to be Good aligned to be a Beggar Knight. I haven't worked out the specifics yet. But it will probably be:
Quote:
Beggar Knight
Limitations:
Wealth limitations as paladin, except: can in addition not own more than 50 gp
Good aligned

Benefits:
Lay on hands: as paladin
Spells: Discern Lies 1/day/ecl, Detect Evil 1/day/ecl
Skills: +4 to Sense Motive
