Conary grew up in a wealthy merchant's home at a now-unknown location. His family realized that he had magical ability around the time he turned 7, and then decided to send him away after he set a bully on fire without any reasonable explanation as to how. They sent him with Conary's Father's Parents, whom managed to get him out of town before the guards were able to organize an investigation of the absurd claims from the bully's frantic mother. From the only place Conary had known, they took him. They decided to go to Saiment to get some proper training for Conary, hoping to find something cheap - Saiment was a town that was rumored to have numerous magic-users as residents, and was a probably a good location to find a teacher. They were very disappointed to find out that most of the town had been deserted. Conary's Grandparents found only a single man in the town. He was a Wizard, and he agreed to be Conary's teacher, but at no light cost...

The Wizard took Conary in as his own child, and from that point in time, trained him rigorously to hone his abilities. Conary lived a very sheltered life thereafter, living with a hermit. Despite everything he was put through, Conary cared for the older man like he would have for the father he hardly remembered. 10 years after their joining, His mentor asked him to leave and explore the world. Conary tried to insist upon staying with him, but eventually he was convinced, even though Conary doesn't remember how it came to pass. He knew that when the Wizard would come for him again when it was time to come home, whether that be days, months, years, decades, or a century later.

His surname was lost, and he has yet to learn the fate of his family. Conary really just tries not to think about it.
His forever-unnamed master had decided his familiar for him, and showed him how to summon a Raven. Conary still argues with Enan from time to time.

With long, stark-white hair and dark violet eyes (both side-effects of his magical heritage, presumably), Conary is hard to mistake in a crowd. He stands about 5 and 1/2 feet tall, and has an average build. He is traveling in simple, durable robes of a color that matches his eyes. The robes have a stiff collar and a hood attached in case of bad weather. The hood luckily also hides his hair remarkably well, if the case arose that he didn't want to stand out. He has no visible weapons.

The biggest difference is Conary having dark violet eyes, rather than what is seen in this picture. Also, of course, being less anime-ish. The clothes are different too - the collar is not so long, and can point up or down depending on which way it's put on. It's also purple...
I would probably be better off leaving it to everyone's imagination, as this has too many differences. I'll leave the picture up, though, since I don't like having a lack of an image on my sheet, and as I said, it's the closest thing I could find.

He is friendly to people whom are friendly to him, and shows no hesitation being rude to someone whom is rude to him. Though most people in his position would probably be scarred for life by living 10 years with only an old man training him in magic, it's that training that kept him sane. He's likely to appear a little awkward in social interactions with people he doesn't know well, and he never had the chance to grow interested in either gender sexually for obvious reasons. He doesn't like hurting innocent things that don't seem to mean him any harm, but will strike a foe with all his being if they meant harm to him or his friends. Among friends, he might be inclined to brag about his superior, innate magical abilities.

Alia was an orphan who worked for her uncle who kept an inn called the Raven's Quill. Braskin Ravensquill, a thrifty man, kept his niece overworked with more than her share of the tasks needed to make the inn run succesfully. Alia had few memories of her parents, but one that stayed with her was of sitting on her father's lap in a huge library. She rememered being curled up, and listening to the sound of his voice while he read aloud to her. She can't recall a time when she felt happier than at that moment.

Braskin was pleased at gaining a servant who cost him nothing and who couldn't quit, and celebrated by liberally using his fists to see to it that Alia didn't dawdle in her tasks. Many found his obvious cruelty distasteful, and he found his reputaton and profits suffering, so he stopped. Naturally, he blamed Alia for this, and as the trainer for the town's militia, and responsible for teaching the young people self-defense, he had the perfect opportunity an excuse to see that she had an excessive number of scars and bruises from training exercises.

Travelers ocassionally forgot things at the inn, and any book left behind was quickly claimed by the young girl to be read in the light of the embers of the fire as the inn's common room closed for the night. In this way she acquired a rather eclectic starting education. Her life was drudgery, save for this and one other thing - listening to the stories of adventure, distant lands, and strange creatures which travellers shared with each other as they passed through. She loved stories about the elves in particular, and a story or song by an elf, which was best of all.

Alia's life changed when she claimed another forgotten book, but perusing it, she found it full of strange arcane formulas and concepts that made no sense. She puzzled over the book for several nights til it's owner, a wandering mage returned to claim it back. When Braskin shouted for his niece and barged into her tiny room under the stairs, both he and the mage were amazed to see the girl holding a ball of blue light in her hand using it to read the spellbook. Somehow, she had managed to teach herself a cantrip from the wizard's original spellbook from when he had been an apprentice. Unwilling to let such obvious talent escape, Caramon the Mage paid Braskin a hefty apprenticeship fee to allow him to take the girl as his student.

Traveling and working with Caramon, she soaked up all the lore he could teach her like a sponge. Caramon realized that having planted her on the road to knowledge, Alia could only truly blossom if she were to attend the Arcanum, the premier wizard's collegium, dedicated to Boccob. Using several favors he'd acquired - he saw to it that she became the youngest student to be accepted at that institution. Now, a scant few years later, she has emerged as an exceptional journeyman wizard, ready to try her knowledge out and perhaps make some contributions to arcane lore herself.

Pretty by human standards, but totally uninterested in such things, Alia is tall and slender with brown hair and eyes that are so brown they almost look black. Her complexion is pale from hours and hours in the towers.

Most of her fellow students at the Arcanum referred to Alia as the walking grimoire. She loves to learn, and considers knowledge to be the only thing worth gaining. She tends to be unfocused on what is going on around her; lost in her own thoughts which are usually of greater interest to her. She is more than a little bit of the absent-minded academic. Under this, however, there is a deep-seated love of adventure, nurtured by all of the stories she heard as a young girl. She seems to be a bookworm, but inside her there is an explorer trying to get out.

Not much is said of Niklaus' family. What is known is that they were gypsies, as is easily seen in Niklaus' habitual dress and manners. When a little extra beer is brought to the inn, however, he'll retell a fable from his people: desert nomads, creatures of the plains and the hills. The town militia knows of the gypsies all too well, but any hint of smuggling, murder, mugging, and thievery is left out of Niklaus' stories. Well, mostly left out, anyhow...

That was all part of a past life for Niklaus, however, since he left their caravans. He brought with him only a few trinkets, his companion, a massive grey bulldog, and his sister, Mona. They rode into Hoppers Pass on a pair of donkeys, looking for work and relief from the stresses that accompany a nomadic life. Mona was the first to find work, as a barmaid at the local tavern. Her exotic air, red sashes, and the clatter of bangles on her wrists made her an instant hit with the customers. Niklaus, however, only managed to find work washing the dishes in the kitchen in order to keep room and board for himself and the two donkeys.

With a little time and connections, though, Niklaus managed to buy himself a wagon and put the animals to work. First it was a simple task, hauling kegs from the brewery outside of Hoppers Pass, but it wasn't long before he was hauling ore from the mines to the smelting pots, and iron to the blacksmiths. It was steady work while it lasted, but hard work, and he sought out other employers, even before the mines began to fail. He took all sorts of odd jobs, carting medical supplies between the churches, beer-runs, weapons from the blacksmith to the militia, and so on. Most of it was in town or in the local environs, and his knowledge of the roads proved extremely valuable.

Niklaus prefers the color red, and a rusty, bloody sort of red at that. He wears a red bandana on his head, and wears a cloak of animal pelts. A cloth sash around his waist is tied in a flamboyant knot off to one side. He wears baggy trousers and tan tights, with leather loafers on his feet. A simple white tunic with an open collar is his preferred shirt in casual company, though when traveling (which is most of the time), he goes for the more sturdy protection of leathers. His wide eyes are often squinted and adorned with some appropriate mascara, and he sports multiple earrings in both ears. A tattooed motif of snakes crawl up each arm, and his bare chest bears another insignia of a dagger on a canvas of black.

Niklaus is generally good-natured and a lover of laughter and tall tales. He is quick to trust and slow to condemn, but he makes friends slowly. No organization claims his loyalty, nor even any deity per se, but he remains faithful to his closest associates and to his sister. He does not refrain from merry-making, and will tell tales when his tongue is loosened. There are tales, however, from his past that he holds tight. His most private thoughts remain private.

He is, by profession, a sort of businessman, and practicality guides his moral compass. He has little interest in politics, but enjoys lore, especially on a personal level. Organizations, even kingships and clergy hold little sway over him, but he is wont to develop relationship and friendship. He does not antagonize establishment, but instead relates to the individuals, whether he be a guard or a monarch.
