Have you seen Goodfellas? How about The Departed? Well, you know how there is always the kid whose dad is either in with the mob or despised the mob? Remember how that kid always ends up in the mob our of spite or respect, and how the mob uses the kid as a runner due to age restriction in prosecution? Well, that was Rocco's start. His old man hated the guidos around Newark, but he worked with a few of them and lived amongst more, so he rarely voiced it. Mostly his dad hated them because they disowned Rocco's Momma for marrying a mick.

Rocco grew up in the neighborhood though, played with the kids, stayed out too late smoking behind the warehouse with the kids, and took a beating like the other kids.When his dad passed, Rocco lost the barrier that kept him from Franky TwoFranks and the allure of money, respect, and la famiglia. Rocco's uncle on his Momma's side stepped in after fourteen years of avoiding the family. He was introduced to the famiglia and hung out in the bookie room where his uncle worked mostly as an enforcer.

Rocco was one of the best runners Franky TwoFranks ever had. He was young, fast, strong, and had more street sense than most of the Capos in the family. He ran numbers and packages between the restaurants, bars, and backroom bookies, as well as groceries to Franky TwoFranks' 93 year old mother.

Eventually, Rocco was lookout for back alley meetings and the likes, due to his knowledge of every nook and cranny, every rooftop, and every fire escape. He was quicker than the police, and not only was able to warn his people on numerous occasions, he was able to take incriminating evidence to the rooftops and get it far away from the scene well before police arrived.

Three years passed and so did Momma. Pain. Anger. Fire started coursing through Rocco's veins, and Franky TwoFranks took full advantage - Rocco was now on protection and extortion duties. This was a path that most did not expect, especially the now 96 year old grandmother of Franky TwoFranks. Rocco still stopped by to listen to Nonna's stories once in a while, or when he was hungry. Her meatballs had gotten smaller with her hands, but the flavor never changed. He knew that no matter when, Nonna would put together a meatball sub unlike any others. Nonna, in her age, started rambling about Rocco needing to find his roots - that he was lost - that he should be more than this

The Walkaway Job was more to save his ass than to pull off a heist. It was that or cement shoes. Or a Sicilian Necktie. Or a double tap. You get the picture. Things went down hill fast for Rocco once Nonna died. That was the last of who Rocco considered family. His uncle was gone - remember that double tap I mentioned? The last lesson he taught Rocco was that there were no winners in the long run when it came to gambling.

Rocco was rising high, fast. Franky TwoFranks said he owed a life-debt to Rocco for the comfort he brought Nonna in the last weeks of her life. In truth, it was her that brought him comfort. Franky TwoFranks wanted to make him Cappo. Rocco didn't want what came with being a cappo. It meant being in for life - you were made. All Rocco could think about doing was getting out - finding his roots. The more Franky TwoFranks insisted, the more Rocco and he divided. Tension covered everything, just like spray tan. Others noticed and began to question his loyalty.

Detective Jennings was his out. He promised an out. He promised safety. He promised that everybody could come out ahead if things went smoothly. Jennings wanted TwoFranks. Rocco had TwoFranks. Jennings needed Rocco. Rocco needed Jennings.

At the end of three intense months, Rocco, with Jennings' coordination, was able to pin the staged murder of undercover agent Samantha Tucci to Franky TwoFranks. There was gun switching with TwoFranks' prints. There was coordination of Rocco's efforts to make Tucci the apparent traitor. Bullets were swapped for blanks. Rocco subdued several of the crew so they couldn't observe or interfere. Two gray leather bags of Franky TwoFranks' money were destroyed in a car bomb. Suitcases of cocaine were found handcuffed to TwoFranks and his bound, unconscious body.

Detective Jennings and Samantha Tucci had the case shut within a month. Franky TwoFranks was gone for life. Rocco was walking from a private plane on the runway to Heathrow where an Audi waited for him. As he approached the car, the trunk opened with a push of a button. Rocco placed two gray leather briefcases in the compact compartment.

Europe changed Rocco's perspective. He spent some time and money in London. He did the Amersterdam thing. He found that Spanish women were just as passionate as Italian women - and better lovers. He fell in love with Spain. After letting his nerves settle and the reassurance that he was gone without a trace comfort him, Rocco hopped a plane to Dublin. He bought a backpack, some supplies, and set off after two days to hike. His father talked of County Kildaire. Of County Cork. Of the different land that was Galway and Limerick. How Gaelic was supposedly still spoken in the west. How the locals got drunk and during the tourist-free night time, pissed on the Blarney Stone. He was warned to avoid Northern Ireland. He did.

He talked with the locals as his disposition was different now. He wore a smile. His paranoia was gone. The fresh air and lack of illegalities washed away what already felt like a lifetime ago. Rocco was amazed how easy it was to talk with the natives. He was amazed at how red his beard grew. He was amazed at the lack of redheads and more amazed at how much their hair contrasted their pale, naked bodies when he found them. Rocco hiked. Rocco talked. Rocco learned about the Doyle's, where they used to live and where they were buried. Paddy Kinney let Rocco stay in his house or camp in his yard, whatever was preferred. Rocco stayed it the house most nights. His days were spent picking through the ancient cemeteries until he found Rory Doyle. Rocco found his grandfather. He heard Nonna's words echoing through his mind. Find your roots.

A week or so passed while he slept at Paddy's house and returned to the cemetery every day. He talked with a knotty old man who used to farm and now sat on his miniscule porch. The man knew Rory. The man spoke highly of Rory. He told stories of how Rory was massive - probably larger than Rocco - and how Rory always protected the younger and weaker kids, especially when the boys his age got drunk and wanted to beat something up. Rocco learned that Rory nearly killed the father of a puny, sickly kid named Finn one night after the father had too much Jameson and decided to punish Finn for his lack of size and strength. Rocco found his roots. He also found his calling.

Rocco went to London and sought a private security contractor mostly comprised of ex-British SAS. He paid to train with them - to learn Krav Maga;. He learned the art of knife fighting and of self-defense tactics both physical and mental. His training was well enough solidified almost 18 months after he first stepped foot in London. He packed his bags and jumped the pond.

Rocco decided that a progressive, trendy town with a climate much like that of where his roots lie would be best. He decided on Portland. These days, Rocco spends part of his time instructing MMA classes in Old Town to those kids who are too small or poor to join the commercial training facilities. He has also decided to use the skills acquired through the years in Newark and London to resupply some of his frivolities in Europe. More importantly, he he uses his abilities to live up to the precedent set by Rory Doyle, his grandfather and the root of his family tree.

I would LOVE any last minute comments, suggestions, etc. on background and stats alike.

Ruben, I am still a little torn on the second talent, mainly because I have no context on how they may work. I was looking at Silent Entry as an option to explain his Parkour abilities helping him scale walls, fences, etc. but I just don't see that being the correct avenue - I also think that I can use the Parkour specialty in that scenario anyways, correct?

I have 'I Can Kill You with My Mind' right now to help portray the street smart and intuitive side to him, but I just cannot find something that I am 100% sold on.

Any ideas that stick out to you based on my writings?

Do keep in mind...we are doing the "Recruitment Job". I myself left both my Specialties, Talents and Distinctions empty...because in the book those are filled in.(I believe -during- or -after- the Recruitment Job?...Not 100% sure as I wanted it to be a bit of a surprise.)

Keep in mind, the boss hasn't said filling them in is wrong.

So he could be allowing us to choose them or such...Just wanted to remind you it is normally done during the Recruitment Job.(As in: 'If you can't think of anything, don't worry! We'll help you!')
