Players Wanted: 4 more (we already have one player confirmed) Application Deadline: Friday, October 12, 2012 System: Dungeons & Dragons, 4th Edition Setting: Forgotten Realms, 1370
Character Creation:
All characters will be created using the standard character creation rules presented on page 12 of the Player's Handbook, with the following exceptions:
Races: No drow or warforged. Neither of us are big fans of monstrous races, so an application featuring a monstrous race needs to be exceptional to get in.
Background: You may choose one General or Forgotten Realms background benefit. No other background benefits may be used.
Themes: We will not be using themes for this game.
Equipment: One magic item of 4th, 3rd, and 2nd level, as well as 680 gp you can spend in any way you choose.
Allowed Sources: All official content and Dragon Magazine is allowed. I don't own all the material, so I may need to look certain things over.
Just a quick note: this game takes place in 1370. The Spellplague, which marked the arrival of the Dragonborn, didn't happen until 1385+. The Dragonborn player was asking about that, so I thought I'd let you know.
That's how it always is for any game sadly. I try to keep to defendery or 'leader' types for that reason, still sometimes a concept just demands you go striker.
Yeah, I try to avoid strikers too because a lot of people use them. I find clerics are rarely made and really useful, plus I had a mental image for a cleric, so that's where my app's going. =)
Name: Lyrandar Paynebrooke Race: Eladrin Class: Hybrid Warlord|Paladin of Corellon, Multiclass Swordmage Alignment: Good
Lyrandar's primary concern is with the safety of others. He takes the wellbeing of those under his command very seriously, and his devotion to his deity is absolute. He is loyal, inspiring, personable and calculating at his best. At his worst, he is oblivious, rash and quick to judge. He has no mercy for Drow or Orcs whatsoever.
Lyrandar has platinum blonde hair and stunning blue eyes. He has a distinguished, hawkish face, giving him a stern, superior natural expression. His sword is a narrow-bladed longsword, the hilt of which depicts a crossguard of spread wings and a pommel of a phoenix's head, with the grip being its body. Inscribed along its length is Swift Death, in fine Eladrin Elven. His armor is brown and red, a distinct contrast from his blonde hair and blue eyes, and the armor seems to have a circulation, with the cracked red accents moving through the animal hide armor as if it still had a beating heart. He wears a magical badge that depicts a snarling bear, taken in battle from a human barbarian in felled in a foray into the mortal realm. The rest of his garb is decorated with symbols of Corellon and in some places, the silver and blue of Corellon contrast his macabre armor strongly. His heavy shield is a synthesis of his armor, his sword and his other clothes; a brown-black heavy shield, with a phoenix in red and the star burst of Corellon in the phoenix's chest.
Lyrandar is merciless when it comes to his enemies, and loyal unto death for his friends. He is not above torture and brutality, if it furthers his goal of preserving life and beauty. He wasn't always so black-and-white in his morality, but his time with the drow has made him bitter and judgmental. He aims to bring Corellon's justice to every vile dark elf he encounters.
Lyrandar Paynebrooke is the second son of the Sarifal Paynebrookes, a noble eladrin family. Their symbol is the phoenix, and the Paynebrookes brag often that they can rise from the ashes of any tragedy. They have a noble tradition of inducting their second sons into the priesthood of Corellon, and this was Lyrandar's fate as well. However, he was not content to study books; inheriting his family sword, Swift Death, and other familial relics, he lead sortie after sortie of his brethren into the mortal realm and the Feydark, to fight orcs and drow wherever they could find them. He gained a great deal of battlefield experience, and was on the path to being promoted to a prominent position on the defense council of Sarifal, the Feywardens.
But his induction into the Feywardens was preempted by his capture at the hands of the drow. Leading his men into a battle against raiding drow, he sprung a trap in his rashness that he had not anticipated. More drow emerged from the shadows, and Lyrandar and his men were put in chains, then forced to watch the gruesome executions of the human and elven community's women and children. He was then dragged into the darkness.
For months, Lyrandar has been planning his escape. He has gathered allies to his side, persuaded other slaves that they can win their freedom by his side. As soon as he gets within sight of Swift Death, he will be able to call it to hand with his swordbond. And when that happens, woe betide the nearest drow slavemasters.
Slavery has been hard on Lyrandar, but he is not broken yet. A fire is coming, a holy light that will purge the darkness... and from the ashes, the phoenix will rise, to deal death to the servants of Lolth in the name of his god.
1 - Escape being a slave of the drow, bringing as many other slaves as he can with him
2 - To kill any drow his comes across, and protect his fellows (ultimately, this contributes to #3)
3 - To bring the light and beauty of Corellon to the Underdark to purge the taint of Lolth's brutal people from the world below.
Allies - The Paynebrooke Family. Though he is a military man and a man of faith, Lyrandar remains a proud Paynebrooke. If they had word of his plight, they might be able to provide assistance.
Amilia Teakshine. Lyrandar's right-hand woman in his old squad, she is a fellow devotee of Corellon, though is invested with no divine power. Amilia is an expert scout and fencer, and is loyal to Lyrandar without reproach. He has not seen her since his capture.
Enemies - Marketh T'chebasta, Drow Slavemaster. This drow is particularly fond of tormenting Lyrandar, taking jabs at his faith and god, and bragging of the supreme power of Lolth. Lyrandar would like nothing more than to plant Swift Death between the cruel drow's eyes.
Cestus Sunstroke. A member of Lyrandar's former unit, Cestus bears resentment towards Lyrandar for landing him in chains, and has been trying to win points with the drow by going over to them. He has not seen him since his capture.
Very interested in this game! Applications aren't due for a while, so I will keep editing this application as ideas for the character come to me and I have the time. I've got a basic sheet for him; his story is pretty standard, but his mechanics are definitely odd! Not every day you see a Hybrid character of two STR classes with 10 STR that works .
EDIT: Sheet still in progress, but fluff is completed.
I'm considering applying to this one as well. My initial concept was a monk, but with the glut of strikers already, I will pass on that idea. Trying to decide on a role...
I'm up for making another application to roll a Warlord. I wouldn't mind, just want to make sure the DMs are alright with me making another character to apply with, or at least, the same character with a different back-story and class.
I just reread the application section and found my question about backstory answered. I am "smart". So I will get my backstory finished with that in mind!
A few people have brought this up, so let me just say that I have no problem with people new to 4e, and in fact we would be happy to help you learn the mechanics.
In that case I think I'll give it go. Wizard app on the way.
