Becoming a Planetouched costs a character one of his traits.
You do not get the benefit of choosing a character race at the same time. Which is just a way to reiterate that you do not add human or elven or whatever racial benefits on top of being a tiefling or aasimar or whatever they are calling the elemental guys these days. You may choose to describe your 'prime material parent' as half orc, human or whatever, but it is just style.
Your other Trait still has to be one of the ones I have designated as Adventure Path Traits.
I am unlikely to allow more than one Planetouched submission. So make it good.
Ignore everything else down below this point in the spoiler box. I am keeping it for archival purposes.
The idea behind these changes are to
(1) bring the power level of a Planetouched more in line without the use of Level Adjustments and
(2) provide a means for creating unique plane touched characters.
Where choices are allowed the perception of min/maxing is strongly discouraged. The point is to decide on the character's heritage and choose suitable traits.
+2 to any One Attribute.
Darkness Vision to 60ft.
Bonus Language of Abyssal or Infernal or Celestial or one of the Elementals, depending upon plane touched heritage. All those languages are available as choices for learned languages as well.
+2 Save vs... : Fire. Cold. Electricity. Acid. Charm. Poison. Pick three of those areas and your character has +2 on saves vs those types of spells/energies. This replaces the standard 5 point resistance.
+2 Skills : Diplomacy. Bluff. Intimidate. Stealth. Perception. Sense Motive. Planar Knowledge. Pick two of those areas and your character has +2 bonus on those skills. ( Or Explain to me why a different skill would be more suitable for your RACE)
Choose one 0-level spell you may cast at-will as a spell-like ability. This choice is subject to review by GM.
Choose one non-attack spell of equal usage to 'Darkness' (or choose Darkness for that matter) and have the ability to cast it 1+Charisma Bonus/day. This is also subject to GM review.
Other LA Races are similarly going to be adjusted to suit what I feel will put them on equal footing. If you have an idea for how to do this you wish to pitch, be my guest. Not giving me more work to do is actually more likely to be acceptable.
In short, the Planetouched Character is effectively losing a Trait and gaining bonuses more in line with Elves and other races instead of 5DR vs damage of various sorts. And they still get a spell like effect. They are not as powerful, but they are no longer a Level Adjusted Race.
I am perfectly willing to allow cosmetic immunities, such as not being burned by normal fires for tieflings or flame based elemental races. Or water breathing and +5 Swim instead of the spell like ability for water based elementals. Or something similar for whatever race you wish to embody.
The intent is to provide for variety in the Planetouched as well as bring them more in line with the other Races without the use of Level Adjustments.
