Incarnates needed! Soulborn required! That's right, the time has come to dust off everyone's favourite supplement! No, not Tome of Battle, Magic of Incarnum! I know you've probably lost it by now, but just turn off the lights and follow the blue glow.

This is a brief one-shot to give people a chance to roll out stuff using Magic of Incarnum.

The setting is a world in which much is the same as in most D&D games, but incarnum is the only kind of magic known; there is limited spellcasting but it's all derived from the same source.

You play as L5 characters tasked with destroying the Necrocarnum Zombie(s) which have been plaguing your town, either because you're heroes or because the pay's good.

Most any WotC books and web excepts are open BUT no "magical" classes aside from meldshapers.

Game Description:

Alternate magic systems interest me. What if there was no Vancian magic, no Wizards, no Sorcerers? What if there were only - in this case - wielders of Incarnum?

Welcome to a world where one of D&D's least-used supplements takes centre stage. Here, all magic comes from the power of souls past - and future. What little magic there is that resembles "traditional" D&D magic will simply be a derivative of incarnum, drawn from the same sources.

This will be a one-shot game in which the players are called upon to hunt down a dangerous necrocarnate, designed to introduce people to Magic of Incarnum or give them a chance to play it, only for non-spellcasters and incarnum classes.

Ah, so definetely nothing like me (the DM who ended up with a game with 16 people playing in it XD) Well I'll start my app then...

Incidentally, there's no requirement for anyone to play an MoI base class. That said, I guess it would be a wasted opportunity if you didn't at least take an Incarnum feat or Shape Soulmeld or something... maybe a race from MoI with another class, or somesuch. Go be creative.

I've always wanted to try a Skarn Duskblade!
Edit: But of course, no spellcasting other than Incarnum. I'll figure something else. Maybe a Paladin with no spells... Possibly a Paladin of Freedom, if I can wrangle it...

I think it would be quite easy to swap out the Ranger or Hexblade's spellcasting, say, for Soulborn-esq meldshaping (that's basically all the Soulborn is, a Paladin with meldshaping instead of casting) but I didn't want to add any sort of homebrew stuff beyond what was necessary to make the PrCs playable.

Well, with that in mind, I don't mind taking on being a Soulborn as well as Skarn.

If you don't mind, can you give me the low-down on how Incarnum works? Every time I read the book, my brain blocks out all information on it as if it's a defense mechanism.

This is something I've always wanted to try myself but firstly, it'd need some work to fix up, and secondly, it's exactly the opposite of what I was going for with this game (i.e. no casting). I mean, sure, it could work, and it'd be cool, but I'd rather no just for this.

This is my attempt at condensing the various rules into one piece. It still maybe could be streamlined a bit but hopefully it'll help a little.

I was going with no Clerics, though I guess it might make sense for Sapphire Hierachs to get the Incarnum domain or something.
