WELCOME to VUUNKONG
CHRONICLES OF THE SPICE ROAD
What this is This is a Hardcore, arcane punk, gunslinging, Kung fu, action story set in a world that I've developed with the help of a few other people in a planning thread. . .
The realms of The Spice Road are a desolate, magic filled, war riddled, fueled by treachery, and the "spice"kind of place. Our game will be taking place within the Dune Sea a graveyard of a magical desert bisecting the known world with only one route through it, the Spice road. You will play the part of a traveler on the spice road who has made his way to VuunKong way station the only city within the dune sea, home to the scar, the only place that the spice can be mined. . .
VuunKong is controlled at least seemingly by a series of treacherous and cruel criminal organizations the likes of which could only be birthed within the Dune Sea. It's the perfect place to make some coin and gain some power if you're not afraid of a little danger. . .
So I've provided a primer introducing the world of the Spice Road within the forums and I'm constantly working on developing more.
We'll be using the Feng Shui RPG system don't let a lack of familiarity bother you we'll help you out, in my games concept is king anyway. . . We'll make the rules work.
So please come take a look ad drop an app.
Intro Vuunkong Way Station
You arrive at the Way station just after sundown, a dust storm stirring in the distance. The town is a disparate and eclectic combination of architecture ranging from old western boom town, turn of the century big city, and elegant Asian spires. All of it strung up with hanging electric lights, paper lanterns and coated in a fine patina of dust. The town is loud even at this hour shouts, gunfire, and the sound of industry growing louder as you enter the town proper.
Directly in front of you is a crooked four story building ringed with windows, balconies, and outdoor porches. A gnarled black tree seems to rise directly from the center of the building towering above it enshrouding the building futher in shadows causing the structure to seemingly fade into the encroaching night. A large wooden sign hangs from the front of the building painted on it is a pale women with a crow perched upon her finger faded with age and riddled with bullet holes at the bottom of the sign are the words The Crow's Bride elaborately burned into the wood of the sign.
Entering the Inn you observe that the saloon is crowded the back wall lined with a long and well stocked bar, numerous gambling tables catering to all tastes ranging from majong, and dice to faro. The walls are lined with what appear to be roots but besides that there's no sign of the tree you saw from outside. Women weave throughout the large room serving drinks and pleasure alike. A girl for every taste just as there is a game or a drink. In the front of the room seemingly presiding over the chaos is an odd and somber man dressed entirely in black. He stands atop a pedestal behind a large ornate Standing desk. He looks down on you with a quill in hand. . .
The man looms over you as you attempt to move past him into the saloon. Waving you over to his pedestal he begins to speak to you in a low resonant voice, "Hello strangers and welcome to Vuunkong way station the only civilized settlement within the stone sea, midway point on the spice road, jewel of the wastes. I am the esteemed Marquis de Liu proprietor of the Crow's Bride accorded neutral ground, inn, and saloon , how may I be of service?"
Awaiting no answers he just barrels on a crooked smile gracing his narrow face, " May I be so bold as to inquire your business in Vuunkong, and offer the humblest of suggestions? . . . . . . If you have no desire to die. . . . Please after eating and enjoying yourself in my fine establishment leave by morning."
Once again not waiting for a response he thrusts out both of his hands palm forward as if attempting to ward off any ill will he may have caused. Shaking his head slightly he continues, " No offense intended but all whom enter the way station never leave. You either work until you die and we feed you to the Trolls and Bargheists or you fight and die and we feed you to the Trolls and the Bargheists."
Pausing he crosses his arms over his chest. He eyes you as if sizing you up to put odds on a fight, or price a cut of meat. Bringing one hand up to his face he taps his lip repeatedly and abruptly begins to speak again his momentary pause over, " But if you're to stay mayhap that I have need of an outsider who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty?"
His smile grows cheshire like, he leans even farther forward almost bent double, down over his plinthe like desk. His voice even lower and more intimate he asks, "would you like to make some gold stranger?"
His rapid fire speach finally ceases his eyebrow raised awaiting an answer.
Who I Am
I'm prof cephalopod
I'm not so new to play by post and the site but I'm not bu any means an "old hand". I'm also new to the Feng Shui system ( 1st game). However I learn fast and love to tell a good story.
I've been roleplaying since middle school starting with Vampire the masquerade. So shall we say I've been gaming for awhile now, and I've ran a "few" systems over the years.
The rule of cool is something I'll sacrifice pretty much anything for. I play fast and loose and like nothing more than having fun and telling a good story.
Crafting a story is why we do this, and to craft an enjoyable one I'll use obfustication, gm handwavery, and as much b.s. as I have to to get it done.
I love interacting with my groups weaving a story with them rather than me telling a story and the players reacting. I want us all to have a part in this.
I'm also a Libra, I've been listening to an eclectic mix of James Brown, Lou Reed, Wu Tang Clan, the 22-20's and some classic misfits, I enjoy reading outside under the sun with a cheap cigar, and holding hands in the rain.
( a wakka wakka )
Also I'm a bit of a Luddite, and I post exclusively from my phone so let's all be patient and understanding shall we?
Characters
Read my first thread containing instructions in the application threadgroup entitled "the process" for full instructions.
But in the meantime to make abundantly clear. . . . . .
Concept is king we'll bend rules, reskin, and repurpose things until we can make your vision real as long as that Vision is a fitting one for the setting provided.
Your character concepts should be drifters coming into the VuunKong way station while traveling the spice road. Why they came, what they're doing in VuunKong is entirely up to you. Just be sure that your character will have something to do. . . . As in I want a conspiracy and intrigue riddled martial arts game. Your character should have some sort of combat effectiveness.
If you have any questions post them up or pm me.
Thanks Guys
What I'm Looking For
I am looking for 5/6 people (maybe more maybe less) who have solid ideas, and want to tell a fun and entertaining story as a group. Check out the forums read what's there. Feel free to put your applications in the application threadgroup ( start your own thread, also be sure it's in the application threadgroup not the chosen or unworthy sub threadgroups ) , and chat in the pregame OOC. Please offer constructive criticism and help each other refine and expand upon your applications before I close out the application process.
I can not stress enough how much you guys need to read everything in the forums but especially the world primer. This is an entirely Homebrewed world that we've been working on in the game planning area for quite some time. I need to know that everyone who has interest in playing is also interested in helping build and grow this world with me.
This is going to be an over the top Arcane-Punk martial arts, gunslinging adventure with a ton of crazy. ( just to let everyone know)
Any experienced Feng Shui players may join up just to read and lend a hand with the rules issues and story crafting.
In fact please do.
If anyone is brave enough to co-gm I'd be grateful.
Anyone who wouldn't mind lending a hand, if you're putting in a character ap somewhere in your ap just include that you wouldn't mind being an Elder. If you just want to read and offer aid and advice just drop an ap simply stating your intentions and that you wouldn't mind being an Elder.
A Disclaimer
THIS GAME IN NO WAY USES THE WORLD OR FLUFF OF FENG SHUI !
The usage of Feng Shui is from a purely mechanical stand point, the world used is my own. Everything in the book that would fit or can be justified for use is still fair game. Just strip it down to pure mechanics and build fluff using the provided world as a guideline.
Savvy ?
