Does this protect against damage other than from pierce/blunt/slash? What about fire damage? Acid cloud? etc.

The power just gives you damage reduction, which is useless against elemental damage, force damage, or most other kinds of damage that doesn't result in physical damage like that of a weapon. Only a few spells that actually declare if they are blunt, slashing, or piercing damage would be affected.
