DFRPGStunts

Mortal Stunts are the extreme, cinematic special abilities that highly trained people can do when they focus on one Skill or Trapping to heighten it to a degree that non-professionals can only dream of. Stunts are named like Aspects, in a way that is both poetic or cinematic, as well as informative as to the nature of the Stunt.

Stunts are purchased with Refresh, just like Supernatural Powers. Where Powers tend to be always on, or use at will, stunts are situationally powerful.

The DFRPG rulebooks provide a number of pre-generated Mortal Stunts, but I always prefer making my own when I can, and tailoring the Stunt names to the specific character. Where credited, Stunts were created by others. Otherwise, they were created by myself, AugustusGloop

Mortal Stunts can do one of the following:

  1. Move a Skill Trapping from one Skill to another.
    • For example, if my character was excellent in Weapons (4 Ranks) but not as Alert(ness) as I'd like him to be, I could use the Stunt I created for the Skills page, Forearmed is Forewarned to move the Combat Initiative Trapping to Weapons from Alertness. From then on instead of rolling Alertness for Initiative, I'd roll Weapons, a gain of 2 ranks.
    • Some pre-generated Mortal Stunts move more than one Trapping, but try to avoid that as it can be extremely powerful.
  2. Create an entirely new Trapping for a Skill.
    • Urban Coyote (Created by Chee) Adds the Urban Scavenger Trapping to Survival.
  3. Broaden the benefits or increase the expertise offered by a Trapping.
    • Give a +2 to a specific use of a non-attack or defense Trapping. This may be reduced to +1 for a broad application, or increased to +3 for a very, very narrow use.
      • Natural Recruiter You can be very convincing! +2 to the Chit-Chat Trapping of Rapport when you're trying to convince someone to join you in an effort or undertaking.
    • Give a +1 to an attack in a specific circumstance.
      • Motorcycle Knight Just like your brothers of old, you are more dangerous when mounted; only the mount has changed. +1 to the Melee Combat Trapping when riding your motorcycle with a weapon in hand.
    • Give a +2 to an attack's result, if the attack was successful, and in a specific circumstance.
      • I don't have an example for this, does anyone want to make one up?
    • Give one or two expendable, 2 shift effects, or one permanent +1 shift effect in a specific circumstance.
      • I don't have an example for this, does anyone want to make one up?
    • Reduce the amount of time necessary to complete a Trapping based task by 2 time increments.

    • Reduce the difficulty of a Trapping based task by 2 shifts under specific circumstances.
      • I don't have an example for this, does anyone want to make one up?
    • Combine the effect of any 2 shift effects at 1/2 the effect.
      • I don't have an example for this, does anyone want to make one up?
    • Allow a more powerful effect with the expenditure of a Fate Point.
