Keirst was once a mortal human, like any other Eldaian. What made him different was his undying love for his beloved bride-to-be, Keilae. However, when the demon Atruos rose from the depths of the former Eldaian Sea (now Keirst's Smile) and took Keilae for his own, Keirst embarked on a journey to destroy the demon. After several years of challenges, Keirst found and destroyed Atruos, but it was too late. Keilae had died from the demon's lust and Keirst, in his sorrow, ascended to the heavens to join his bride in a plane of their own, beyond Death. The satisfied Keirst threw down his sword, an act that is rumoured to have destroyed the Eldaian Sea and create Keirst's Smile, a symbol of his undying happiness upon being reunited with Keilae.
