Civit Posted September 23 Clone Share Posted September 23 No love for Run DMC? You be Illin Ok guess this isn't a classic rap/hip-hop crowd.... how about: Showed your photograph to some old gray-bearded men Sitting on a bench outside a general store They said, "Yes, she's been here" But their memory wasn't clear Was it yesterday? No, wait, the day before Finally got a ride with a preacher man who asked "Where you bound on such a cold dark afternoon?" As we drove on through the rain, as he listened, I explained And he left me with a prayer that I'd find you
Roughtrade Posted September 24 Clone Share Posted September 24 Nope. Had to cheat and look it up because it seemed very familiar. Was going to guess something by Dolly but surprisingly, it was written by Eddie Rabbit. Recorded by someone else though. Good luck to the rest of y'all. Inash Posted September 25 Clone Share Posted September 25 Written by Eddie Rabbit? I try very very hard not to remember as much country as I can avoid... or something. - Doesn't ring a bell. Must have been inbetween my country phase in the '80s and taking a job where my coworkers play country all day long....

Eddie Rabbit had some pop crossover appeal. "Driving My Life Away" hit 5 on Billboard pop. He also wrote and performed with Juice Newton and Crystal Gale. He also wrote "Every Which Way but Loose." Like Dolly Parton, he wrote songs other people performed. And he covered Bob Dylan and Donavon. I will admit I had to look up Eddie's career notes because I mostly know him for "Driving My Life Away"; which resonated with my life when it came out. I looked the song up, which I admitted earlier. It was less of a "Surprise" than it was "Well, of course. That makes sense." for me. The performer is known for Rock, Rockabilly and Gospel. From a time when you did not have to target a niche audience.

Roughtrade Posted October 1 Clone Share Posted October 1 Well I've opened up my veins too many times And the poison's in my heart and in my mind Poison's in my bloodstream Poison's in my pride I'm after rebellion I'll settle for lies Is it any wonder that my mind's on fire Imprisoned by the thoughts of what to do Is it any wonder that my joke's an iron And the joke's on you
