Flaming DwarfAs the area went dark, Igni sensed the beholder moving away from him. Apparently a creature made of eyes did not appreciate the sudden gloom. It was a good idea, giving the group some room to breathe and perhaps to escape.

Igni retreated as well, withdrawing from the corridor and back to the group. As he did, the dwarf cast a discerning eye over the strange magical barrier which blocked the other path, trying to discern its nature and effects.

"Let's hope this thing doesn't block our path or fighting that eye monster will be the only way forward," he muttered to himself.

Snow timidly steps forward and attempts to inspect the pathway and barrier in front of them. Every time it seems like he might touch it, he jumps back. Just the very act of looking it over seems to take a long time to others even though it's been mere moments.

Snow’s been doing the reading, it seems ; )
 

This is Otiluke’s dispelling screen, invented by Otiluke of the Circle of Eight, one of the pre-eminent mages of Greyhawk. It is essentially a wall version of dispel magic that only targets active spells.

 

As a matter of fact, a close look shows that the darkness effect isn’t working on the other side of the barrier.

Flaming DwarfIgni was both impressed and a little frustrated that Snow had been able to identify the dispelling barrier where he had failed. Either way, it was good that someone knew what it was and they didn't have to test it's effects by walking through it.

"Aye, I'll test the way forward for any more pitfalls," Igni confirmed. "Not saying I'll spot them before I fall in, but at least you'll know where they are." With that the dwarf blinked out and reappeared further down the corridor on the other side of the barrier.

Brody grumbles slightly at the need for him to carry Shizuka. That of course does not stop him from bending down and hoisting her up over his shoulder. "I certainly hope she appreciates this when she wakes up. " he then begins to walk with her towards the rest of the party as he also activates two charges of his healing belt to send positive energy into her.

The adventurers move through the Otiluke's Dispelling Screen. As they do, there is the momentary feeling in their ears that accompanies all powerful abjuration spells, but it soon passes. Most of the magic affecting the party is stripped away, and Shizuka regains consciousness (barely).
