If you are confused then let us all go see the Abbott and figure out all of this confusion. Why should we lay down our weapons when we have done nothing wrong? We know there is a traitor in your midst and we do not know who that is, it could be any one of you and if we dropped our weapons then we are in danger from that traitor."

Within, there is a corpse shrouded in a black robe. A malevolent cloud of dark energy surrounds the body, pulsing with energy. The priests gasp in horror, and Brother Didimus shouts “Do not dare to touch, we know not what ills will follow.”

The clergy of Hieroneous appear as they did the last time you met them. They appear slightly flushed, as though they ran here.

Brody nods his head as he listens to Brother Didimus' response. "I guess that leads me to the following questions where is it at the Keep you came from? We had done a search around where the body was last seen being laid to rest at the keep but found no hidden exits there, though I suspected that there was something for the body to be moved with no one knowing. My second question is how did you find it if you did not know it was here to be found?" he gives Nabil a nod as he agreed they should check the coffin before leaving. With the added clerics there with them it should be safer to do so, especially with them removing the paralysis from Orin.

When the corpse was revealed with its dark cloud surrounding it he looks at it closely as he racked his brain to place what it may be.

He does what he can to work out some of the stiffness and aches from his recent ordeal, though it isn't much. For the moment he remains silent - he knows little of spellwork, after all, and the others have already said much of what he would have.

Once out of immediate danger though he turns to Brother Didimus and speaks. "Who was it that told you that someone was desecrating the tomb? If I could hazard a guess that person may be our traitor." he gives the brother a curious look as he asks as the urgency in which he and the others came led Brody to believe this person might hold a certain position of authority with their order.

You are taken to see Abbot Valentin, who agrees to cast Zone of Truth over the party. He reminds both you and the other priests that should you attempt to resist the spell, he will know, and be forced to consider you a liar.

 

"Yes. I asked these strangers to investigate because I sensed they had good hearts. I knew there was reason to suspect one of our own, but without knowing who, it was difficult to proceed."

 

Brother Didimus and the other monks appear surprised, but they wait for the Abbott to finish. After a thorough questioning of everyone, it becomes clear that:

  • Brother Didimus was ordered down the stairs by Brother Sidanus.
  • A search reveals that Brother Sidanus fled recently on horseback.
  • The body of Sir Gregor is ordered back into the chapel to be cleansed before he is laid to his final rest.
  • You are invited to join the monks in two days time for a dedication service.

”Brothers and sisters, what has been lost is now found. Sir Gregor has been returned to us once more!”

A shout goes up among the assembled monks, mixed with some cries of surprise. The Abbot raises his hands for silence once again.

“This miracle was accomplished by the strength and grace of these stalwart heroes.” The Abbot gestures for you to come forward. “Their names shall be added to our rolls as friends of the Abbey of the Valorous Knight. We award each of them our symbol, let no one turn them away in their fight against evil.”

Amulet of the Valorous Knight (all) - this masterwork iron holy symbol of Hieroneous is inscribed Let no member of the Church of Hieroneous turn away this friend and ally in the fight against evil. This entitles the bearer to request aid from any clergy of Hieroneous, and can be used once to cast protection from evil on the wearer. It is attuned to the owner, and will rust if given away or sold.


Martial Training (all) - For any who wish it, the monks will allow you to train with them for no cost. This takes two real-world weeks, and allows you to retrain a level, faith, or feat into any of the following options: Classes: cleric, paladin God: Hieroneous Feats: martial weapon: longsword, heavy armor proficiency, shield proficiency, weapon focus: longsword, weapon specialization: longsword, improved critcal: longsword, power attack, cleave, extra smiting, or craft arms and armor. Other retraining rules still apply.

 

Darkwood shield (x1) - This former bugbear table is a MW darkwood heavy shield. Spilled wine stains one edge, but the shield is still strong, and half the weight of a normal shield.


Redeemed Wand of Inflict Light Wounds (x1) - Once a weapon of Brother Sidanus, this six-sided wooden wand gradually narrows toward the end. Each of the sides is marked with an upward-pointing arrow, and the base is marked with a (non-functional) symbol of pain. This wand now functions as a wand of cure light wounds and has 25 charges remaining.

 

Blade of Sir Gregor (x1) - Once the weapon of the paladin Sir Gregor the Just, this masterwork mithril longsword is engraved with the word Valor along the blade, and the pommel shows the lightning bolt symbol of Hieroneous. It can also be used as a holy symbol of Hieroneous. Its other powers are currently dormant.
