Vic Rameka, Yang Ranger

Recommended Posts

Character name: Victoria "Vic" Rameka

Age: 18

Pronouns: she/her

Description: Tall and toned, with short hair and slightly dark skin.-Wears snug clothing that lets her move freely.

Biography: Vic and her twin brother were born in New Zealand, then moved to Angel Grove when they were 8 years old. Shortly thereafter, they were separated during Astronema's invasion. Their father (who is a police officer) kept Vic safe, but they have no idea what happened to Vik and their mother. Despite that, Vic was inspired by the Power Rangers and started training to be like them. She has focused mostly on increasing her fitness and situational awareness, but her father has been reminding her not to become too laser-focused.

Personality: Vic is usually upbeat, but she can also be a bit intense. She often feels guilty for what happened to her family, even though there was nothing she could have done about it. She subjects herself to intense training so that she will be able to act if another crisis happens.

Suggested choices with example tasks are listed below, but ultimately, the GM will determine if a task applies to your service.

—When I’m stressed or need focus, I can be found practicing my martial arts.
—The service I provide to my community runs in my family, and I am following in their footsteps.

Hang-Ups: You run into dangerous situations to help others without thinking, and your desire to help others above yourself often puts you in harm’s way. If an innocent person is in danger, you feel compelled to aid them before any other task. In combat, you will attempt to heal other’s’ Damage before your own, even if strategically unsound.

Spectrum Role Features

Personal Power Regeneration: 4 per day

Training

Armour: Light Armour, Medium Armour.

Starting Skill Ranks: +1 Might, +2 Performance

Grid Equipment: Terra Morpher (includes wrist communicator), Elemental Blaster*, Geo Sabre*, Versatile Power Weapon - Yang Projector System*

* items appear while morphed.

Power Weapon - Yang Projector System

Initially appearing as a heavy white hammer with a long red handle, this weapon can be wielded in one or two hands, deals heavy blows that can burn the body or mind, and has the following stats.

Skill - Might. Size - Medium. Hands - 1 or 2. Range - Reach. Other Traits - Power Weapon, Versatile, Elemental.

One-handed Damage - Blunt 1 (+ Fire 1 or Psychic 1 on a crit). Two-handed Damage - Blunt 2 (+ Fire 2 or Psychic 2 on a crit)

(Yang Ranger's sidearms deal Fire or Psychic damage on a crit)

Scarlet Chi Song

From 5th level, the Yang Ranger unlocks the hidden potential of their Yang Projector System. On the word command "Rockin' Ranger", their weapon transforms from a hammer to a sonic weapon in the shape of a sharp-edged electric guitar. As a standard action on their turn, the Yang Ranger makes a Performance check to play the guitar and affect everyone within a 20ft radius. Allies are energised by the music, gaining a +1 bonus to Evasion, and ^1 on attacks originating within the area covered by the energy field. Enemies are attacked (Performance vs Evasion) by note-shaped bolts of Scarlet Chi energy (Energy 1 damage + Sonic 1 on a crit). The Yang Ranger can keep the song going as long as they want by making a new Performance check each round to attack remaining enemies.

At 8th and 15th levels, the radius covered by the song increases by 10ft each time. At 11th and 19th levels the damage increases by 1 each time.

Yang Ranger Prime

Yang Ranger Prime gives the same benefits as Purple Ranger Prime

Elemental Powers

Unless otherwise specified, Elemental Powers only function while a Ranger is in their civilian form. They cost 1 Personal Power to activate.

The holder of the White Terra Gems uses the projective power of Yang to enhance their allies and damage their foes.

Aura of Movement: Starting at level 1, you can invoke this power to create an energising field around you for 1d6+4 rounds per point of Power spent (or until you Morph, whichever comes first). All allies within 30ft of you at the beginning of the round gain +1 Evasion and an extra 5ft of movement that round. At 7th level, the bonus increases to +2 Evasion and an extra 10ft of movement.

Explosive Strikes: From 4th level you can invoke this power to add 1 Fire damage and a 5ft knockback to your successful martial arts attacks. This power can also be used while Morphed.

Overload: From 10th level you can spent 2 Personal Power to invoke this power and "throw" a ball of concentrated Scarlet Chi at a target. Select one enemy within range (30ft/60ft) and roll Athletics or Targeting vs the target's Toughness Defence. Success deals 3 Energy damage (+3 Fire damage on a crit). Enemies defeated by this Chi overdose explode, knocking anyone within 10ft of them prone. This power can also be used while Morphed.

Yin/Yang Transfer: From 13th level, the Yin and Yang Rangers can each spend a point of Personal Power to forge this connection for the rest of the scene as long as they remain within 60ft of each other. The Yin Ranger gains ^1 on attacks and deals 1 extra damage with martial arts attacks. The Yang Ranger gains +2 to all defences.

Yang Guardian Zord - White Wolf

In times of great need, the Yang Ranger can call upon their Zord by raising their hand to the sky and calling out "Guardian of Yang, I invoke thee! White Wolf Zord power up!" . This Zord descends from a beam of white light and manifests in the form of a white biomechanical wolf, which races towards the Rangers and their giant foe. The Guardian form of this Zord is a wolf-themed male warrior.

This Zord has the following base stats.

Size: Extended 2 / Towering Health: 6 Ground Movement: 50ft
Strength: 6 Speed: 5 Toughness: 17 (+1 Plating) Evasion: 15
Zord Features: Assisted Summoning, Recall for repairs, Extra Attack, Light Chassis, Guardian Mode, Combiner (Enhanced Ranged Attack)
Skills: Conditioning +3, Driving (autopilot) +d2, Might +d6, Targeting +d8, Initiative ^2 in Guardian Mode
Melee Weapon Attack - Claws: Might +d6 or pilot's Driving, Reach, 2 Sharp damage
Ranged Weapon Attack - Howling Blast: Targeting +d8 or pilot's Driving, Range 50ft/120ft, 2 Energy damage (+ 2 Sonic damage on a crit)
Melee Weapon Attack - Guardian Mode Martial Arts: Might +d6 or pilot's Driving, Reach, 3 blunt damage

Recommendations: The Guardian of Yang is meant to embody the shining leader of the pack, and fights with such speed and ferocity that it can seem as though it is many wolves, not just one. For that reason, I'd strongly recommend taking as many "Extra Attack"s as you have Zord Features going forward to help represent that.

The White Wolf Zord forms additional chest & shoulder armour for the Element Megazord, as well as twin shoulder-mounted blasters.

Power Weapon Combination - Yin/Yang Bomber

The Yin and Yang Rangers must first move adjacent to each other and call out "Yin/Yang Bomber!". The Yang Ranger's Yang Projector System morphs from hammer (or guitar) form into a bazooka, which they brace on one shoulder and kneel in front of the Yin Ranger, facing the enemy. The Yin Ranger stands behind the Yang Ranger and places their left fist into the back of the Yang Projector bazooka to link the Yin Defender to it.

Both Rangers then spend at least one point of Personal Power and call out "Combined Chi Shot!" . The Yin Ranger makes an assisted Targeting roll against a single target with range, dealing energy, fire, and psychic damage. One or both Rangers can spend additional Personal Power to increase the damage. Each point of Power the Yin Ranger spends adds 1 to the Psychic damage. Each point of Power the Yang Ranger spends adds to the Fire damage.

Skill - Targeting. Size - Medium. Style - Energy. Hands - 3. Range - 80ft/120ft. Other Traits - Power Weapons, Combined, Elemental.

Damage - Energy 4 + Psychic 1 + Fire 1

Ok, let's crunch some numbers and ask some obvious questions 🙂

Skills & Essences - Strength-based and Speed-based match up fine, but at the moment you have 1 skill in the Smarts-based skills that should be in Social-based (or move 1 Essence point from Social to Smarts).

Obvious question number 1 - you picked the "Community Helper" Influence but didn't specify a branch. From your skill choices, it looks like you plan for Victoria to be following her dad into the Police or going into the Fire Service... or even the military with that d6 in Initiative. Hmm. So, yeah, would like to know the plan there 🙂

Obvious question number 2 - What style do you have in mind for her "Martial Artist" Influence?

Obvious question number 3 - presumably she's finished school, so what is she up to day-to-day? Is she about to start college or is she in training for her "Community Helper" branch?

Fixed that.

Yeah, she's basically in a 'junior police' program. Dad calls her 'Deputy Vic'.

Not sure, tbh. I'm bad at describing martial arts moves anyway, so I'll probably gloss over most of those details.

She's probably just about to finish high school (or just got out) and is currently undecided on what to do next.

First episode kicks off in the last week of summer before a new school year, so Victoria already being 18 suggests she graduated a couple of months ago. 🙂

Depending on how long you want her to have been part of the Junior Police Patrol, a lot of her recent time has presumably been taken up with training or regular duties.

You don't have to specify a Martial Art if you don't want to. I merely brought it up as something to consider. Perhaps tie it in with the restraint and takedown techniques she's learning as a cop? Maybe move a point from Athletics to Might for grappling and "Set your night-sticks on whomp" purposes?

Just spotted something that I can't believe I missed before. Astronema's invasion was 1999 - 10 years and a few months before this, so being 11 then and 18 now would require timey-wimey shenanigans 😜

Of perhaps greater importance is the question of where the twins went when they were separated - the implication seems to be that they didn't know where the other one was, which suggests one or both left Angel Grove and have only recently returned

...I'm bad at math. I'll fix that.

I dunno, it's entirely possible that half of the family got shunted into a different dimension or something. Power Rangers does a lot of weird stuff like that.
