Just cos you've got high Lore doesn't mean you know everything about every subject. Craft functioning the same way makes sense to me. (though IDK how that runs for Craft Artifact) As someone who would like Craft but has no interest in artifact crafting, I'd second something like this. I've seen any number of variants on the idea but something like Declare a crafting tradition. You can make things you'd reasonably be familiar with from that tradition, just like Lore backgrounds. Your specialties serve as additional traditions, just like Lore backgrounds. Artifact is its own specialty. You can only craft Artifacts within a tradition you know. Ignore any Charms that would do shenanigans with Craft dots. a little less everything all at once than ye olde "Craft (Everything)" or "every dot is a new category," but still broader than "yeah, you know carpentry, but you can't UPHOLSTER the couch, just build the frame." Ratpigeon Posted October 5 Clone Share Posted October 5 @Krivolacarticus Hi Kriv - quick question: isn't the language of Great Forks Riverspeak - it's part of the Scavenger Lands? Najwa speaks Riverspeak, because its the trader tongue of Threshold, and her father was a merchant prince in a trade-city on the inner southern coast. Glyphs also speaks riverspeak (Lookshy is also Scavenger Lands), so between that, and Ayato's magic body language, I was thinking we could skip the blessing of Tongues, but not if everyone is going to be speaking ForestTongue. Ratpigeon Posted October 5 Clone Share Posted October 5 (edited) @namo @karsusthemad - I'm leaning towards Guard Blackmail. We don't need Forest Tongue, between Alchemy and Herbalism, we can make a sleeping draught (but I don't think we need one) and I think if undead are wandering the countryside, we could find them ourselves. Plus - sidequest! Let me know if either of you have strong opinions otherwise. Actually - @Krivolacarticus, my Jupiter Auspicious Prospects tells me whether revealing or concealing a piece of information would align with destiny. I'd like to use it on both the Undead perk and the Guard Leverage perk. karsusthemad Posted October 5 Clone Share Posted October 5 14 hours ago, Ratpigeon said: As for Glyph's crafts @karsusthemad - check with Inquisitor about the house rules that are going on for artifacts stuff. We've got Tailoring (with artifacts) covered (and since we aren't going to have a lot of people wearing heavy armour, Tailoring covers artifact armor), and Najwa has Herbal crafting (with some help and luck, I might be able to manage a 2 dot artifact... maybe). So something metal-crafting would be useful - weapons, but I'm personally also a big fan of artifact trinket stuff. Hmmm... Metal-Crafting, but not armor... And you "recommend" weapons or trinkets for when I get around to making Artifacts... That leaves only a handful of things I can think of: A) Weapon-Making (obviously), as we all need weapons and the ability to commission the artifact weapon we want (assuming it's not just straight outta one of the books) is very useful B) Jewelry-Making, could be used to make a lot of fun decorative metal trinkets (like crowns, rings, bangles, or necklaces) which can be a lot of fun to them artifacts around C) Metal Sculpting, less versatile from an artifact perspective... but potentially make works of art that can be used to win favors, and make enchanted golems or relics (like a mystic grail and artistic statuary) as artifacts And lastly D) Clockworks, for more of a steampunk feel in what Glyph makes... both mundane and artifact Hmm... think I'll start with Weapon-making then, as it makes the most sense given her background; unless someone has a better idea. Might pick up some of the others later though. 14 hours ago, Inquisitor D said: I was discussing potential houserules with Kriv about that, because that's at once punishing and really generous. Rules strictly as written, if you have Craft-Artifacts 5 and any one mundane craft at 5, you can craft any artifact (that isn't First Age). But that means you have to invest a whole second ability's worth of XP to get it up there... but Ex3 does that elsewhere with Martial Arts vs Any Other Combat Ability... I don't think we ever decided on anything, but I feel it's a very debatable point. Notably Ex3 includes charms to make it waaaay easier to buy more ranks of Craft - Solars get one that lets them buy Craft skills with Craft XP, and Sidereals get a slightly lesser 'one for one' discount option via regular XP. (Spend XP to buy a discount for spending XP somewhere else! What fun! :( ) For my money, I'd kinda prefer a system more like Lore Backgrounds? Just cos you've got high Lore doesn't mean you know everything about every subject. Craft functioning the same way makes sense to me. (though IDK how that runs for Craft Artifact) I haven't really taken a look at it, but I think there's a simplified crafting system in Crucible of Legends that might help if we don't want to overhaul the existing crafting system. 1 hour ago, Ratpigeon said: @namo @karsusthemad - I'm leaning towards Guard Blackmail. It unfortunately doesn't help very much - it simplifies through major changes to how crafting works, which I'm not opposed to, except it also includes a stipulation that magic shouldn't affect the most critical part of the new system, which feels pretty bad. doesn't really offer much on how to then convert the many crafting Charms that no longer function with the new system. It feels like someone earmarked that whole section for "if there's time, expand this" and then there wasn't time. I'd be willing to work with it, but it is also an overhaul or at least it implies one. Not sure if you meet all 3 basic objectives or just 2, though. It's two. This gained an intimacy from Ethniu, and provides a clear in game benefit (her friend is able to blend in during this mission) but this doesn't uphold or strengthen any of Komari's intimacies. (She's basically gaining one for Eth now, but it's not in place yet.) That said, World Shaping Artistic Vision gives me my speciality as a fourth bonus objective, and this is needed to do our jobs, so I back-work into 3! ^^ Name xDiceName xDiceResult xDiceString xDiceRolls

(This might be two facts - let me know if you want another roll). @Ratpigeon, with 4 successes you have established that Ohanlei has a significant cult presence in Great Forks, represented by a loose afiliation of the city's teahouses. If you want a teahouse that serves both mortals and dematerialized spirits, that will require another roll. Viatos Posted October 8 Clone Share Posted October 8 Alright, up and ready to run. Honored Storyteller, I am likely to pursue the Misplaced Merchant, but Nightfall is easily persuaded otherwise if it is preferable we minimize the number of active missions at once. Inquisitor D Posted October 10 Clone Share Posted October 10 Does Komari have the time to use Auspicious Recruitment Drive to put a battlegroup together? It's supposed to take a day, so I think this'd be pushing it, but it's relevant enough it felt worth double checking. (Especially since, with a Battle Group, I can do a Strategic Maneuverer roll to try and set up a Stratagem and stuff! ^^) Name xDiceName xDiceResult xDiceString xDiceRolls
Krivolacarticus Posted October 11 Author Clone Share Posted October 11 Normally you probably wouldn't with it just being a little more than half a day, but I am curious enough about it to say yes for this time.
