Maximilian and Kethra stand still, as if staying unmoving might cause the strange creatures to ignore them. Morn however, take the initiative to engage the beasts, unwilling to find out if they'd just pass by or run off. His crossbow bolt flies wide however, the dusky light and his shaky hands working against him.

While Bochs considers his actions, Rodin, though unable to place these beasts, takes Morn's signal and unwilling to let another roaming beast of the ruins take the party unscathed, lets loose a carefully aimed arrow. The arrow sink deep into his target's flesh, eliciting a gruesome reaction...

The wounded beast and its companion pull the skin back from its head, revealing the musculature and bony structures of their skulls! They couple this with a loud screech that produces an even more unsettling effect. Suddenly, you all feel shaken to your core with fear born of the strange beast's grisly act and their unearthly screech. The creatures then quickly close in...

OOC

Note 1: Will save DC 13 or frightened (run away). If successful, shaken (-2 to attacks, saves and ability checks) for duration.

Note 2: Everyone is up, but if you failed your save, you must flee.

Morn Tallstag

image.png.9a00bffda4484b6d0b4510773b6259e4.pngMorn Tallstag, Human Bard
AC: 15 HP: 7/7

Morn might be some hayseed unfamiliar with battle, but he's got a strong soul. Not letting himself be frightened by the beasts, he begins to sing--a song about the night suddenly ending with the singing of birds, a song of comfort in the darkness that could make a man forget his fears. The crew feels their arms and spirits strengthened for the fight to come.

OOC

Move action: reload crossbow.
Standard action: Bardic Music: Inspire Courage: +1 to 1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 morale bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls.

Seeing the creatures skin peel back from their faces and then the horrible shriek sends shivers down his spine. The fear is too much to bare. Rodin turns and flees in the opposite direction of the beasts and does his best to scale the crumbling wall and get away from the horrid creatures.

Scowling, Jessie quickly scrunches down her ears tight in an attempt to resist the loud screech emanating from the pair of foul beasts, an haunting sound that echoes through the night air around the ruins.

As soon as the screech dies down, the diminutive Halfling holds her breath, wiggles her ears, and lightly exhales in relief as her blood begins to boil in anger at the unfolding situation.

She was on watch, it was her responsibility, and things were going haywire all over the place. Even as Morn's music bolstered her confidence, her heart dropped when the tiny rogue saw her her best buddy in the entire 'big' world, Rodin, succumb to the siren's song forcing him to run from the foes as the battle just begins.

Raising her bow and taking careful aim at the creatures down below, Jessie fires a razor-sharp arrow sinking it deep into the closest beast, when its within point blank range, if possible, from her hidden sniper position high atop the wall of the ruined chamber!

Jessie Tosscobble III's AppearanceJessie is small standing at 2 foot 8 inches and weighing a mere 27 pounds. As such, the lass intentionally keeps her brown hair long to cover her halfling features, which allows the rogue to pass herself off as a small humanoid or even young human or half-elven child when convenient or necessary.

Dressed dark purple clothing, which is overlaid with attractive black leather accoutrements, Jessie keeps the paraphernalia of her 'profession' secreted upon her person, and especially the authorities, except when in use.

Her friendly blue eyes and warm, sincere smile are disarming and allow the lass to paint a picture of a young girl who is completely unintimidating by all appearances, an assumption often made by others which suits her well and which she actively cultivates.

To promote this look of youth or innocence, most of Jessie's weapons, alchemical doodads, pack, and other equipment are kept hidden under her clothing and also by her large heavy dark green cloak.

CONTINUING EFFECTS: (Morn - Inspire Courage: +1 morale bonus on saves vs. charm/fear effects and +1 bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls); Shaken (-2 to attacks, saves and ability checks)

Jesse looses her prepared arrow, sinking it into the beast Rodin had injured. The beast's wail dies out as it falls to the ground, limp.

Frightened in an unnatural manner, Aeruiel turns tail and flees to the far side of the small ruined chamber, trying to scale the low broken wall.

Maximilian and Kethra both gird themselves against the unnatural wail. Maximillian raises the newly acquired wand and utters the command he'd learned from handling it. Two battlebolts of blue-white arcane energy coalesce at its tip and fly forward, unerringly, to sink into the still standing beast.

Kethra, shaken, raises her crossbow and aims at the beast. The bolt she lets fly grazes it's exposed skull but flies wide. Her shaky arms quivering.

Morn continues to serenade you all with words of courage and might. But Bochs too is unable to land his bolt while quivering.

Succumbing to the unnatural wail, Rodin too turns to high tail it, following in in half-elven companion's feet.

The last beats standing, wounded, leaps up at Jesse, much to her surprise given it's state, and lashes out with a vicious bite, but the nimble rouge is able to dodge the beast's teeth and finds the act restores her nerves to focus.

Jessie nearly jumps out of her skin when the wild beast launches itself airborne at the rogue in an attempt to kill the diminutive lass.

Fortunately, however, the foul creature just misses with its surprising attack and loses its opportunity to snatch the tiny Halfling off the top of the ruined wall.

Exhaling in relief, the pickpocket quickly reloads her fancy short bow and launches another deadly arrow at the enemy that just attacked her in an attempt to return the favor, albeit with better results.

Unfortunately, Jessie is still somewhat antsy about having just nearly been a hyena-bear-monster-wolf snack and misses badly.
