Chapter 2: What Dreams May Tell

Recommended Posts

spacer.pngThe bolt had found its mark, but it was too soon to celebrate. Already the men were locked in a deadly melee with the skeletons, and were making themselves prominent targets. That was sound enough strategy, but had they no shields? Without some kind of cover, the skeleton archers would easily pick them off even if they managed to down that spearman. And if they fell, then they would come for him! Fools!

It was, then, down to him and Akua and Cassandra to destroy that spearman. Perhaps if that enemy fell, then the tall brave fools would know their peril. He hesitated for a moment: shooting into melee was reckless, and a bolt flying astray could easily wound his comrades. But then he saw Cassandra shoot and miss. If it was good enough for her, it was good enough for him as well. He had less of a conscience to hold him back, after all.

OOC

Hp: -5

Action: Move-reload crossbow; action-Shoot crossbow against remaining spearman.

OOC: I am not sure if there's such a thing as shooting into melee penalty in 5e, but I am a sucker for realism, ergo the fluff. If there is one, feel free to apply it. Also, I hope my actions are correct... I'll roll below.

Edit: With that roll, no need to roll damage!

spacer.png"Hey!" Dumirk calls out to the strangers before he realizes the situation. "Bonewalkers?!" he gasps. He could only hope his brethren's bodies hadn't been transformed into such foul creatures. Better it was humans or something, less of an affront to nature that way. "Hold on! Dumirk's comin'!" he called out as he leapt from the top of the broken stairs and made for the nearby archers. Whoever these folk were, letting them become pincushions full of skeleton arrows wasn't going to win Dumirk any friends.

Kalagos

Kalagos throws his left arm up and dodges to the right. At first it seems the skeleton's spear has caught no more than his tunic, but then the pale cloth is first dotted, then smeared, with deep red. Hissing in pain and anger the man steps close, grabbing for the creature's shield while his club rises and falls.

spacer.pngJack emboldened attacks at the remaining spearman, but it pulls its shield up just in time to block his axe! Kalagos attempts to grab the shield and land a hit with his club but the skeleton manages to just pull out of reach!

An arrow from Akua flies by the melee striking one of the skeletal archers, it staggers mid shot and falls off the bridge into the chasm! Snobi's crossbow bolt's reckless aim missed the melee entirely and sailed into the expanse after the falling archer.

A Shout from the other side of the skeletons seems to pull the remaining skeleton archer around toward the new comer.

Cassandra curses under her breath before setting loose another arrow, now targeted at the remaining archer with the melee too busy, her shot flies true hitting loose a bone from the skeleton archer as it fires on the dwarf, it was not enough to sully its aim.

The last skeletal archer fires at the approaching dwarf in attempt to keep him at bay.

The skeletal spearman outnumbered switches targets and tries to jab at the man swinging an axe.

spacer.pngSnobli was prepared to see his bolt fly astray, missing the melee by a great deal. But the arrival of another one, someone of flesh and blood, took him by surprise. Had his eyes, unaccustomed to the bright light of the surface, now decided to deceive him in these dark places?

For a second he waited, unable to tell if the newcomer-evidently a dwarf-was friend or foe. But soon enough that question was answered. Quickly, he reloaded his crossbow. Whatever his initial thoughts on the matter, there was still a skirmish to be won, if they were to take the bridge.

Akua

She took a deep breath and whispered a quiet word to an unknown source, wishing the fallen dead a path back to their resting place. But then she raised the crossbow again, hoping for the same success.

Jack

spacer.pngLocked in combat with the spearman Jack finds himself unable to land a decisive blow, the skeleton using his shield to good effect. Handaxe against spear is not the match he would have chosen, but it was what he must needs deal with. Against a foe with better arms and armor, he decided he would need to take bigger risks. Spinning to the spearman's off side, he attempts to get in close and land a heavy blow with his shorter weapon, leaving himself open in the process.

His enemy capitalizes on Jack's exposed ribs, stabbing through his hide jerkin and slicing skin before grating along the ribs beneath. The pain sends the white light of agony across his vision, but heedless of his injury he slams his axe forward with all the energy he can muster.

spacer.pngDumirk continues to charge forth, briefly letting go of his spear with one of his hands to heft his trousers somewhere near the midway point. "Not fightin' with my bits hanging out," he says loudly to himself and follows it with a balmy sounding laugh. As he nears the skeletons, he grips the haft of the spear tightly as he winds up for a strike. When he swings, his shoulders and hips spin so fast it looks like he's going to twirl himself completely around for a moment, but the spear follows and and makes a whoosh as it whips around towards the nearest skeleton. "Back to the grave with ya!"

OOC

I don't want to assume Dumirk knows how to properly use a spear.
