They were at the Moot, and I remember they employ some leothrings so I went looking... I think. Thats how I found my new mentor who we met again at the tower. I think thwys plausible, for him to overhear something back then - but its been so long that Gandalf + Great success makes sense to me! Yeah. Even if they heard some rumors, I don't think it's something they's share willingly and happily. Dol Guldur is a bad place... I am guessing the hobbit whose name I cannot recall took it with him to the Shire... but not sure. Here. One of the pros of PbP-it comes with a detailed archive. Edit: Anyway. The point is that it's not with the company anymore. thesloth Posted September 29 Clone Share Posted September 29 Well as long as Aveena accepts our offer to joint the group, perhaps her audience with King Bard could help focus our direction. Vladim Posted October 1 Author Clone Share Posted October 1 For the core group of TOR players-meaning @Suzuki Stumpy @Diofant @Eric @Modest_Proposal @thesloth: everyone good with moving on? I probably just need a majority vote and not necessarily full consensus-I like us to keep the momentum. For the side-thread; @Powderhorn: ready to move on/join the group? I had a look at it and I think @thesloth did a good job of introducing you to his PC (and NPC). I don't need to interject, though I should clarify that the Beorning NPCs that accompanied Avena do intend to travel to Dale in late November for the festival there (given the opportunities for feasting, trading and joining the fun and the contests there). It's not a long journey, though, and it's pretty safe. After that they plan to winter in Lake-Town as people in this setting rarely travel in winter, and even if they do, it's rarely far. I think @Diofant mentioned something about also joining Avena's side-thread but I am not sure if we are doing that, or simply moving on. Suzuki Stumpy Posted October 1 Clone Share Posted October 1 There's not much I think Barin is going to get from Gandalf that he's not already gotten - especially given that he doesn't have the history with the Woodmen that others in the company have so his curiosity is really focussed on what is known about Thrain (as thats really the only bit of the conversation with which he has any familiarity). But I also get the impression that he and Gandalf haven't exactly gotten off on the best footing... Vladim Posted October 1 Author Clone Share Posted October 1 9 minutes ago, Suzuki Stumpy said: But I also get the impression that he and Gandalf haven't exactly gotten off on the best footing... Re-reading the last post, I don't get any sense of animosity (or other negative aspect) between Gandalf and Barin. Gandalf is very busy, and very troubled by the news, but otherwise he values the tidings, even if they are dark. If you are looking for Gandalf to act as a quest-giver... he probably won't, as he is very reluctant to ask the company to do anything that might get them killed for no benefit. That, and he doesn't know the group well at this point, and nor does he have a specific plan. So it's up to the PCs to decide what to do with all the new info. Gandalf for his part will likely set out to seek answers from other places and people. Name xDiceName xDiceResult xDiceString xDiceRolls
Suzuki Stumpy Posted October 1 Clone Share Posted October 1 I wasn't suggesting any animosity, I just got the impression that he was a little testy towards Barin ... possibly because of his rather blunt/gruff demeanor. But yeah, wasn't really looking towards him as a quest giver ... I think the path ahead is pretty clear that this 'Gibbet King' is something worthy of our attention. Might also be worthwhile considering an audience with Bard and Bofri ... to see if there's anything been spotted with the potential rebuilding of the Eastern Trade Route - after all, the Marsh-Dwellers were probably only the first of possible issues I'm guessing... I did want to join Avena's thread but didnt see a good chance so far; just feels odd to do the whole 'well, I just walk on-scene'. Sloth's captured a good chance with the familiar smell of honeycakes, but I couldnt think of a useful entry point. Gandalf: I think we have enough to at least try to look for answers on, but I dont think high places will work out. If Gibbet King is something powerful enough to have served Necromancer as jailer, then he probably has some kind of information network, or forces he needs to monitor. Dale is a pretty major force, and Erebor is right there. We can probably try and see if we can locate any of his informants... Or maybe even ask birds for rumors via ravens some of us have. Surely there have been odd movements. At the risk of slowing down, maybe we all ought to just sit down IC and lay out what we know about troubling things in Wilderland, then try to make sense of where we can go to find an answer. thesloth Posted October 1 Clone Share Posted October 1 If the Gibbet King is some Dark Soul who was the jailer for Sauron, he's old. Dol Goldur was taken down quite a while ago in mortal terms. I will ask Gandalf a question, about the Gibbet King. I won't be at my PC for a few hours though. We need to do a lore check on the jailer of Dol Goldur regardless. We could retrace Branwyn's steps. Something in that forest took him. Perhaps the Gibbet king? That would explain @Powderhorn Eye result earlier. So maybe the elves would be best for the lore check? They might also have fresh rumors? thesloth Posted October 2 Clone Share Posted October 2 @Powderhorn I bet Aveena could really shift the dynamic of the conversation with Gandalf. Imagine his reaction if he caught her trying to hide two honey cakes in his bags while he was answering Dahr-Ol's question, because she felt bad that such an old man was going to be forced out into the wilds and weather for his cause. Getting caught in such a simple act of compassion for a near total stranger would be just the sort of thing to help Gandalf mark the party as "people of quality". thesloth Posted October 2 Clone Share Posted October 2 Vladim, I'm going to make a Lore check for the Jailer/Gibbet King with Dahr-Ol. Does his specialty "Shadow Lore" provide any additional benefit?
