"Molly, I think you're right!" Helge agrees. "They must have caught their clothes on this edge. That means we could get in and out here!"

She considers the situation.

"Perhaps they retrieved the bundles from the burial mound. But then why would they drop them in the stream after taking them? Superstition? Or did they decide that the contents were of little worth?"

She returns with Molly to share what they've found with the others.

Once everyone was ready to push, Thugnar raised his grizzled eyebrows and barked, "On my count, then! One... two... three!"

Bernard is the never do well second son of Count Dargolin, and has sent to manage his father’s estate in an out of the way village. In the counts words to stop him from getting into duels with other men all the times, especially not over the wenches. 

He still isn't the shining Champion his father would wish for, but the experiences in the starless sea, have increased his martial skills and sensibilities.

 


Bernard hasn't been called Lad for many years, but he likely had invited the remark by calling his companion Master Thugnar. But this wasn't the time for words it was the time for brute force. He takes his place on the lever and hears Thugnar counting down.

"On three or at three? I mean are you going 1, 2, 3 and we go or 1,2 and we go?"

Nevertheless he pushes with all the might of his arms shoulders and legs from underneath the pole.

The perimeter had hardly been walked when Helge spotted the crack in the foundation. Tabitha stopped and listened to the explanations. Then she was called by Thugnar and Bernard to help move a boulder.
 
Securing her shield on her back so it wouldn't fall, Tabitha walked to the lever and found her place. She licked her lips and rolled up her sleeves. "I'll offer what I can, but surely there's someone else stronger?" she said, but before any reply could come, Thugnar began counting down. "Gods!" she exclaimed, pushing down with all the strength she could muster, trying to tap into the primal part of her that awakened down on that ziggurat...

Tabitha, Thugnar, and Bernard put their backs into their work and with the help of their lever, they manage to slowly roll the boulder out of the way.

Moving the boulder reveals a hallway of cut stone beyond, but before any of you can get a good look, your attention is diverted by a great sound of rushing water.

You turn to the pool only to see the water in it gather itself into the form of a giant serpent. This elemental beast coils up to strike!

The Water Serpent

This monster is made entirely of water. It is at least 20 feet long with a head big enough to swallow a man whole. That said, the serpent's lower half is constantly shifting, flowing from the form of waves to snake coils, so it is possible the beast can actually change its length as needed.

If he did not trust the water before, now the dwarf could positively call himself a hydrophobe.

Lyra is just starting to walk around the outside of the mound. She made it about 40 feet when the noise of the boulder rolling away comes to her. She turns back and sees the water snake rear up. She fumbles around trying to get her bow ready, but suddenly is all thumbs.

Bernard follows Thugnars advice and moves towards the entrance drawing his sword „How does one fight water, I doubt steel will do much good. Helge anything with fire in your arsenal?

Not having the means to fight the water snake, Molly heads for the entrance to the tomb as Thugnar directed. He moves quickly, his heart pounding in his chest as he seeks safety within the ancient structure. Once withing the safety of the tomb the Bard removes his short bow and begins to nock an arrow.

Tabitha had tried to peer inside the tomb after the boulder rolled away, exhaling a large breath she wasn't aware she was holding. Before she could, though, a loud noise came from behind of... rushing water? Spinning around she watched in disbelief as a liquid serpent took shape and seemed to threaten the group.
 
"By the Gods..." the jeweler-turned-warrior murmured. She grit her teeth and pulled her shield onto her arm. "Not a chance you get all the glory, Dwarf!" she cried out, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Thugnar as she pulled her flail free. A wicked grin curled onto the woman's face.

Before you can get in your positions, the serpent strikes at Thugnar! It isn't the lightning-fast bite of a true snake, but more like an incredibly fast flash flood. Thugnar readies his axe and the beast tries to swallow him whole.

Thugnar

All at once, you're inside the mouth of the snake. Its fangs are made of liquid and have no ability to pierce, but you're surrounded by water held together by evil magic. If you don't tear your way free, you'll drown inside this monster.

 

** OOC - Thugnar must make a DC 20 Fort save to escape.

All Thugnar could manage is to cling to the axe, chaotically waving it around while trying to fight his way up (or down? or sideways? It was hard to tell in the whirling too much alive water.

Lyra turns around just in time to see Thugnar get swallowed by a large snake made of water. Realize the attack is meant to drown him and not inflict pain, she decides they need to get Thugnar out of there. As moves back towards the group she grabs the rope tied to the side of her backpack and quickly starts making a lasso. As much as she hated being an ostler and taking care of horses, at least it did teach her a little about using ropes and making lasso's.

OOC: I am guessing that getting the rope out and forming a lasso would take her entire turn. she closes to within 20 feet of the water snake while doing this.
