If Eabha can tell that (without needing another Main action) then she could finish it off with the Shock from her dagger

It would take a main action to see the HP. I think she'll attack it anyway - knowing how close to death it is she would want to try to prevent anyone from getting hit. Plus, you know, the Goddess is protecting her so she doesn't need to fear.

Just needed to verify how shock damage worked (again, I'm learning while running it too, so don't feel bad if you don't have all the answers at your fingertips!) and yes, Eabha can essentially de facto finish it off, so I'll write it up accordingly. That still leaves me with the problem of treasure that I'm trying to sort out :X

Shock damage is one of the biggest differences between Kevin Crawford's games and other OSR systems. Personally, I really like it. It helps combat move along, giving a sense of progression even on a miss. This scenario is a great example of how it can allow a character who isn't oriented toward combat to contribute meaningfully to a fight. It helps make melee more attractive, counterbalancing the desire to use ranged weapons to keep foes at a distance.

I agree, I thought Shock was a rather clever concept the first time I heard of it, and it's not that much extra bookkeeping.

Swarm attacks are also supposed to help non-fighty types contribute meaningfully as well, although it requires some coordination between players to get the action chain worked out properly, since the swarm actions have to occur before the benefiting attack. Have you thought about how that would work for PBP, where someone might post an attack action before someone who wants to Swarm can post? Retroactively applying the Swarm seems the easiest, but it might be too easily gamed.

Swarm Attacks

Each assailant takes this action against a target in range of their current weapon, until up to four have done so. When the final participant has taken this action, one of the mob can elect to make an immediate melee or ranged attack against their target, gaining a +2 bonus to hit and +1 to damage for each other surviving attacker, up to +6/+3.

This damage bonus does not add to Shock and it cannot drive the attack’s damage over the maximum usually possible for the blow, but Shock from it always harms the target, even if they have a too-high AC, are using a shield, or have a Focus immunity to Shock. The sheer swarming numbers of foes are bound to inflict some kind of harm on the target provided they’re not completely immune to the mob’s weaponry.

I'd say just a quick coordination OOC, say, "I'm looking to do some swarming, who's with me?" and then I can move the pieces accordingly.

@Primeval Stasis (skill rolls are 2d6, not 1d20)

(but maybe you can get the GM to take your 80th percentile d20 roll and turn it into an 80th percentile 2d6 roll, which would be a 9)

Whoops, I didn't have a chance to look at the rules at the time so I just copied the first die roll that looked right 😅 Thanks for the reminder!

GM, is there any impediment to collecting the spider silk for later use?

Separately, does anyone want to collect parts of the exoskeleton for Otto to make into armor later? If not, that's totally fine, just making sure.

Just weight - encumbrance seems to be on page 32, I think every 5 pounds of harvested materiel will count as 1 stowed item? I'm not sure what the best approximation for that is, so it may change in other adventures if it doesn't "feel" right, but we'll start there.

Toktok can carry it. Just to be clear, it's 1 enc worth of giant spider silk?

He wouldn't mind an armor upgrade, as long as wearing a hacked-up spider carapace doesn't wig out Eabha and Clara too much. He also has Craft and a soldier background, so might be able to assist on any crafting checks.

I had originally come up with 50lbs of spider silk in my mind, but I'm not entirely certain that seems reasonable. 5lbs for 1 enc. is probably about right, and for the spider pieces to make armor down the road, I think we're looking at 25lbs total, for 5 enc.
