"Hey!" T'Sarra shouted as the thing squirmed free of her embrace and then literally jumped away.

"A girl can't help but take this kind of rejection personally! Get back here!" she waited a heartbeat while Barhuce threw his bomb then rushed at the thing intent on grabbing it again.

Standard: grapple. T'Sarra does not have improved grapple so this should draw an attack of opportunity as well. Umm... 9 vs. the things CMD to grapple it and I feel that probably isn't going to work. Somebody kill this thing!

"What the hell is going on, I can't see a thing," Vri said as she stayed where she was, back against the stone wall and her rapier in front of her. She had felt the creature move and heard the splash, but she didn't know where to and she wasn't going to search for it if she could avoid it.

Adjusting her positioning, Rain fires another bolt at the jumping creature after reloading her crossbow. It seems though that her luck has still yet to catch up, as the bolt veered right this time and shattered against the cave wall, the splintered pieces sploshing harmlessly into the water.

 

Barhuce on the other hand, had a much easier time pelting his bomb at the back of the amphibian's head, resulting in some weird, blood curdling scream to emit from the creature, although of course this time, his companions are far away enough from the acrid substance to avoid being splashed, and most of it either dissolves into the flowing water, or bubbles harmlessly on the rocks at the shore.

 

Steadying her aim once more, Violet fired off another shot, this time hitting the frog-thing in the torso, the wound immediating causing the surrounding water to blossom red.

 

Moving up towards the shore, T'Sarra tried once again to clutch the slippery amphibian, though this time without success, and the android beside her blinks, watching the interaction.

 

Emboldened by her teammates' successes, Val took a step forward as she reloaded her pistol, and fired off a second shot, which grazed the monster's right foreleg.

 

With the chaos around her and not being able to see, Vri did what she felt was best and pressed her back against the wall for safety.

 

Turning around from the barrage of assaults, the frog-monster blasted a cone of light again, hitting T'Sarra, Val and Vri, before jumping out of the water at the human with its ferocious row of teeth, though it catches only a a mouthful of air as Val manages to turn her gaze quickly and evade the bite.

"OK enough!" T'Sarra flinched to cover her eyes, then stabbed at it with her claws and missed wildly. Then she moved to trap it between herself and Val and stabbed again with each hand.

"Just! Stop! Moving!!!" she howled with anger hoping she could finally finish it off.

Vri felt the critter jump near her again, so she lashed out with her rapier, just in case she could do something.

With few practical options at her disposal against such a creature, Rain cocked back another bolt and fired once more, though the projectile once again flew past the combatants and smashed against the cave wall, sending splinters flying over Violet's boots and whatnot.

 

Barhuce's mace smashed down just to the side of the creature's hindquarter, shifting and kicking up a bunch of pebbles in the process. Coincidentally, he may even have heard a couple of them crack underneath the slightly concave edge-flanged head of his weapon.

 

With a million questions bubbling to the surface of her mind, the android busied herself with loading another bullet into her blunderbuss through the muzzle, tamping it down properly with the ramrod as she shuffled forward beside T'Sarra once more. Finally she couldn't hold her silence anymore, "How come you get to touch… that guy?… thing?"

 

Frustrated and clearly done with the slippery slick amphibian, the tiefling lashes out with her claws, and finally fells her fleeting inamorato, ripping up part of its webbed right forefoot and landing a few deep gashes in its head before it slumps to the ground.

 

"Hold still. Let me have a look at you." After Vri clearly misses a stab with her rapier at the now-dying frog-creature, Val holsters her pistol and turns to her companion. Placing her hands gently on the half-elf's cheeks, she gently opens Vri's eyelids a little wider to start inspecting the eyes.

"Hey, what's going on," Vri asked as Val touched her eyes, "that thing blinded me. Is it permanent? You killed it, right?"

She assumed they did, otherwise they wouldn't be fussing with her eyes.

"Oh thank the gods!" T'Sarra cried as the thing stopped moving at last and she pulled her gore covered claws out of it. She stood up, wiped the guts off her claws, dipping them in the foul water, but only as deep as she had to, then approached Vi. As she went through the cleansing ritual she calmed herself. She would have thought all this would be obvious to any two year old, but then Violet was a lot younger than two years old in some ways.

Slowly she moved to put a hand on the android's shoulder looking her in the eye, her face close to Violet's. She crouched down enough to get eye-to-eye with the android.

"OK, first, do I have your consent to touch you on your shoulder?"

Assuming she did, she proceeded to lightly rest a hand on Vi's shoulder, shake it slightly and smile at the other woman.

"So. I was allowed to grab the thing for the same reason you were allowed to shoot it. Self defense. If Barhuce ever tries to kill you, you have my permission to grab any part of his anatomy you need to, to fight him off. But while he is not your mortal enemy, you need to make sure you have his consent to do those kinds of things. Once you get a little more experience you will be able to almost always guess right about some touches, like how I'm touching you on the shoulder now. I asked just so I could make absolutely sure because I don't know you very well yet, but if I knew you a little better I'd just do it. It's OK, you're still learning and it's a lot to take in. Just, if it's trying to kill you or one of your friends or just obviously hostile, you can shoot it or grab it or whatever. Otherwise, maybe just ask. For now at least."

She stood up taller and looked away from Violet, turned to Vri and Val and asked, "How's it look? I don't have any magic for blindness, but Father might? It'd be a swim up and back down again through that nasty water though."

Black Hill Caves — Dark River Cave

The blindheim having been slain, all seems quiet now underneath the twenty-foot-high ceiling here thick with stalactites. The pool and stream are once again placid, the traces of acid and blood having been washed away by the water along with stray splinters of wood, leaving the creature's corpse and a bit of an acrid smell on the rocky shore as the only sign of the previous battle.

 

Out of the corner of T'Sarra's eye, she notices a narrow fissure to the north, feeding the pool via a trickle of water. A small garden of toadstools and dark mold grows along the banks of the placid pool, where the mangled and half-eaten corpse still bobs gently beside Barhuce's knees.

 

spacer.pngIn front of her, the android Violet doesn't seem to object to being touched on the shoulder, however her silence coupled with her visibly withdrawn and preoccupied expression indicates perhaps still some amount of confusion and hopefully, development towards further understanding.

 

"Barhuce, big chinned one," Violet said at length, her volume betraying still a certain lack of comprehension on the matter of discretion as she calls the alchemist's attention, though the tone behind her apology to follow is completely deadpan. "I am sorry I touched your big huge wand."

 

spacer.png"Yeah don't worry Vri, we got it." Val deliberately ignored 'the talk' happening behind her, shaking her head in futility before focusing on Vri's condition. After inspecting the half-elf's eyes for a few moments, she says, "It doesn't look like it's going to be permanent, but I don't think that I can make it any better right away. We should take you back to town to see Jhestine or Father Kyte, just to be safe."

 

With that said, Val nodded to the others, and then guided Vri by the arm so that she could support the half-elf under one shoulder like a human crutch, "Let's get you outta here."

And now the looting

Satisfied that they were making some progress in Violet's education, she smiled at the apology and let Val keep working on Vri. While she did, T'Sarra reached out to haul the nasty half eaten corpse back to shore.

"Might as well see what he's been eatin'," she muttered, looking the corpse over. She took some time to examine the frog-thing's corpse too.
