What does it mean to have taste?

It's easy to be respectfull of the dead. They aren't there to keep reshattering your illusions...

"Adj. 1. in good taste - satisfying generally accepted social or esthetic standards" - The Free Dictionary.

Given that definition, taste changes based upon the society you're in. So if you claim someone has bad taste on the Internet, they may not. The reason for this is, you may not be part of the society in which their tastes come from.

The question then becomes which 'society' you compare their 'tastes' to.

Do you compare their 'tastes' to the 'society' from which they originate (which would, I presume, vastly increase the proportion of the total population estimated to have 'good taste').
Or do you compare their 'tastes' to the 'society' in which they are currently participating (which would, I presume, vastly decrease the proportion of the total population estimated to have 'good taste').

Additionally, how do you define the limits of a 'society' for these purposes?
