Create a New System!

So what are fate points?

By spending a Fate Point, a player can raise or lower the result of the black die by 1, regardless of who rolled it.

Too much magic if you are creating a new system! Cool for it to be out of space, however, make different species. Each player can introduce their own species to the game and they have to come up with their own abilities. For example, I could come up with a species called the Crysatlintists. They could be humanoid in stature, but basically look like humans covered in a think layer of crystal. Then I would come up with abilities for the species.

So, maybe this species lives deep inside of their planet and, due to their diamond like skin, they can withstand great pressure. However, they probably weight about twice as much more than their average human counter-part and may be slower. Being made of such material they can redirect light in the area and reform various parts of their body.

If someone's species ends up being too strong or to ridiculous, the group could take a vote and make slight changes. When the changes are done the character's race becomes canon and anyone can use them henceforth.

Exactly, it all depends on how creation-based you want this to be. But if you are talking about gaming, let's squish the magic (yeah, he said it), if just for a little while and do some outer space, alien what nots.

You could also, depending on how creative you wanted to get, toss in well-known aliens like ET, give them a homeworld, abilities (obviously he is a healer and has levitation abilities). The possibilities would be limited ONLY by the imagination!

I propose we change the name to crystalinists. They're crystal humanoids that look like Joseph Stalin - it's difficult to tell them apart though but they've got no trouble. They use sonic resonance to communicate subtly but also vocalize for obvious/surface messages. They have access to special racial abilities too - if you spend enough skill points on their racial things, you can unlock laser eye beams and mind dominance (the latter works only on wetware; AKA sentient/sapient creatures of organic composition). Stalinists are not organic, so they can't use mind dominance on themselves.

The above isn't definitive - it's a paragraph proposition (more than one sentence again).

Their should still be a min/max scale. The obvious choice for the balance is the human. Humans might begin with the most skill points. Skill points are used for pretty much everything, including learning a fighting style, etc.

How about, players can purchase starting equipment, but they get deals or access to different equipment to buy at the beginning, depending on their homeworld.

Do we have to call them Stalinists? Seems to be pretty bad luck for your entire species to look like Stalin!

This in the future where people barely remember and/or care about the actual figure.
