geographical term help

I would call them a plain. Just like the Great Plains of the American West, they were flat & extremely fertile. Plains can also be quite extensive...

ok, the most common term for the area ure descibing is most deinitely not a valley, a valley is basically between mountains, thats not between nothin, the most logical term would indeed be Plains, but, there are more specialized names depending on the climate, like Steppe, or Tundra, a nice name for it would be The Steppes of XXXXXX thats a fairly common definition.
(although keep in mind, steppes are mostly brushland)
just my 2 bits....

I had a look at the maps, but couldn't find the place you're talking about. You described the geology of the location, but not the ecology. Often this can have an effect on description. My ideas (and others already mentioned):

(if mostly treeless) meadowlands, grasslands, savanahh, plains, arable plains, black soil country, red soil country, moor, heathlands, tundra

(if undulating landscape with overall declination, with streams and copses) steppes, dales, glens, fells, dells, slopes

basin has a watery feel about it to me, you could try bowl? Valley would also work.
