Doing some pre-planning for level 3 in this post.

~Farm Preplanning~

Base: -25
Wild: -10

Total Negatives: -35

Low Resource: +1
Low Risk: +1
Business savvy: +3
Master knack: +2
Masterwork tools: +2
Wisdom: +3
Secondary: +1
Hours: +2
Take 10: +10
Ranks: +6

Let's see...that's.. 1 + 1 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 3 + 1 + 2 + 10 + 6 = 31 + 1d4 upgrade.

Risky but doable. Even with negatives on profit checks. I'll have enough money at level 3 to cover the negatives, until I negate them via upgrades and get a high enough role to set me back to square one. Then the fun begins.

Meanwhile my Shopkeeper has this...

Base: -25
Wild: -10
High Risk: -4

Total Negatives: -39

Low Resource: +1
Business savvy: +3
Master knack: +2
Masterwork tools: +2
Wisdom: +3
Secondary: +1
Hours: +2
Take 10: +10
Ranks: +6

Which at level 3 would be 30 + 1d4...not worth the risk. I'd have to wait til later. I could hire specialists, but I'd like to do this alone. I think level 6 will give me enough bonuses for shops alone...I'll have to wait til the farm pays off, but it certainly will be worth it. With 9 ranks for 33 and merchant prince for +2. Heh. Wait until level 7 and I'd get another +1 rank and +1 synergy. For 37 + 1d4, without any special rules or maneuvers. It's going to take a while, but at the rate all my other games are running I question if a game run in a module would actually be any better. This might be slow but it's consistent.

How many times have you played Kingmaker only to have it die? How many games have just...blanked out during combat?

Hey cool, at midnight tonight, I get my first level up.

Just checking again. How many people from March 28th to May 6th have leveled up in their campaigns that aren't just Arena games or such. I.e Actual stories/modules, and so on.

I leveled up in a dnd 5E game in that time. The dm does levels by chapter rather than xp. We've gone up 3 levels since I joined. But several people have ghosted. Down to me as the longest tenured player despite not being in the original cast. Still have 3 total players though.

I'm running my own experiment where I just give myself a level every two days. So... I guess I'm winning?

Not meaning to nay-say or anything, but what is your experiment actually trying to discover? If it's how long it will take to reach L20 under these rules, you can just calculate that - you don't need to post something every day or whatever. I'm also not sure what it tells you - you've made up the rules, and they're quite different to a "real" game, so what of relevance is the result?

Actually the rules are based on an actual campaign I was part of - the "Realm Folded Tavern".

Also I'm bored and mercantile games are rare.

Also I used the most basic character creation rules possible. Can I just point out that the Realm Folded Tavern you were allowed to start at level 3, with flaws, and it was gestalt? This is a 25 point buy (3.5 point buy not pathfinder), level 1, non-gestalt, no flaws character. Aka the most basic build one can create.

Also it's meant to be compared to the level progression of an actual campaign, you know, one with stories and plot. To see if in terms of leveling, if running a module, even if one ignores the whole "Games regularly die constantly" thing, is actually slower in terms of leveling in real-time, compared to just making a character and rolling profession checks at the rate the Tavern allowed it while leveling AD&D style.

Also it was meant to compare to my own writing rate, because quite frankly, if the local farmer is leveling up faster than you in real time....your game is probably moving too slow.
