Please see below for all relevant information.

Game Description:

The premise of this game is going to be very similar to the items in Nicholas Eames excellent books Kings of the Wyld and Bloody Rose.

You will form a band of monster hunters and glory seekers, commissioned by the city of Caluth to venture out in to the Wilds and bring back "entertainment" for the masses. Caluth is a border town...on the border of civilization that is. Located far to the North, near the arboreal crown of the world it is the last habitable (for humans and demi-humans) port that far north. It lies in a moon around the Feriz Bay, looking out at the Crown and the Spire, the forest and mountains of the north. The city has grown large, decadent, and rough.

Recently a new Trading Company came in to town, the Black Spire Trading Company, and set up a coliseum in the city. Their purpose, to entertain the masses of people who live in Caluth, and aspire to escape from their every day drudgery. To that end they've put out a call to the Bands, come to Caluth, bring us monsters both fierce and mighty, and we will reward you with riches and fame beyond your wildest dreams.

It sounds good, you're damn right it does. It's just that, well, it's dangerous up here, and the first four bands came back in pieces, not at all, or as undead retribution from something in the Crown. The Black Spire Company is down, they haven't had a full event in the Coliseum yet, and they're rapidly bleeding money and interest. This is it, their last gasp, last chance at their dream...and your first chance at yours.

Character Build:
28-point buy
4th level characters
5,000gp (no individual piece of equipment over 3k)
Races and Classes - I prefer the standard ones, but have the books and will entertain ideas about the non-standard ones
No LR adjusted races

Looking for 4 players most likely, and the willingness to bear with me running a Pathfinder game here. :)

Side Note: I'll be a bit out of touch over this upcoming weekend, but I wanted to get this out there.

Oh my, absolutely! Both of the books so far have been spectacular and they just beg to be a campaign. Did you see where Eames ran some friends through a game a few weeks back?

Could you offer a bit more clarity about what you view as "standard classes?" Cura definitely shows that there's space for Summoners (and what's she's ultimately doing is a lot like Pathfinder's Spiritualist class). Do you mean all official Paizo classes as standard, or are you eyeing a cut-off somewhere between Core / Base / Hybrid / Occult?

Yes, I, too, would like clarification on what "standard" means

Sorry, should've been more thorough.

Standard: fighter/barbarian/sorc/wizard/thief/bard (Play one...it'll be funny!). Definitely add Swashbuckler and Shaman to the list, I could see Summoner (where's that one located?). I'm pretty open, I have the Advanced Class Guide, as well as the Core Rules, so I'd like to stay in those books if possible, and if it fits.

Yeah, I saw where he ran some friends through it a few weeks back, and it looked like a blast!

Not familiar with the books, but this still sounds interesting. A few clarifications...

Do you have a folder/forum for us to place our apps?
Will Background skills be in effect?

Great, thanks for clarifying!

I've used the online SRD for Pathfinder for so long that I tend not to remember which specific books things come out of, EDIT - Advanced Class Guide has all the hybrids, it's Advanced Player's Guide that has the Core classes.

I love how invested the Heartwyld is in signature looks and weapons, though, so I'll probably play around with concepting the character's swagger before I try settling on a class. I'm glad I just re-read the first few Black Company books, too, since there's a surprising amount of similarity in the two worlds.

Are you sticking with the low but insane magic in the books? I mean moog is really the only Wizard we ever meet and he never really casts a spell on his own, just has magic items and knowledge.

I was thinking the alchemist hybrid class would fit that sort of zany half-mad-science take on magic. I’ve never played one before becuase they have always struck me as a bit silly, but a bit silly fits the universe well

@psychburn great series check it out. It’s sort of like someone’s campaign in a non-standard dnd world. A bunch of retired heroes getting together for one last score. Direct magic isn’t really seen in the series, but characters that do magic things (like summon or shape shift, with very specific rules to it) exist. As an example, there are no “druids” but there are people who have a spirit beast that they can turn into.

I’m going to allow the more direct magic classes in the world...mainly so I don’t have to modify the monsters as much!

I will say that direct casters ARE more rare and are viewed as highly suspicious. Summoners, spirit
Shamans, that sort of thing are more “known”.

I’ll set up an Applications sub-group.

In the book I think I'd peg Moog as a high int rogue or maybe a bard without magic and then just a ton of ranks in UMD and a lot of money from his "growing" business to buy cool magic items that he activates blindly
