Dungeons & Dragons 3.5e - Forgotten Realms 3.5e

I'm looking for three players for a 3.5e game in the Forgotten Realms. Please see the game description itself for more details. If interested, post a short character concept to this thread. Include how you came to find the posted advertisement and why you are answering it. When I find three I like, I'll announce here that I'm done looking. That might be tomorrow, or might as likely be two weeks from now, since I'm a fickle and capricious DM.

Game Description:

The following notice was posted in public spaces in Arabel, Ashabenford, Dagger Falls, Hillsfar, and Shadowdale on or after the 20th of Eleint, 1372 DR.

Wanted: Highly skilled and motivated individuals willing to work together on behalf of Kelemvor, the Lord of the Dead. No fixed pay is offered, but expect rewards commensurate with the undertakings, as well as a fair share of incidental spoils. Interested parties, who should be properly equipped for overland travel, can inquire at the Old Skull Inn in Shadowdale prior to Highharvestide.

DM Notes
Expect a posting cadence of at least once per week, though every 2-4 days will be more likely. The game will be somewhere between a mystery and a traditional hack-n-slash, leaning more towards the grim and gritty and away from more sensational and over-the-top play. There will be a paladin of Kelemvor present early in the adventure. But I do not expect the remaining members of the party to have any affiliation with Kelemvor. Having a ranger in the group (or another class with Tracking) would certainly be helpful. Beyond that, classes and races are open, but players will need to convince me that their character's presence at the Old Skull would make sense and wouldn't cause every person in the building to stop what they're doing and either stare at them or try to kill them.

Character Creation Rules
This is a 3.5e game, set in the Forgotten Realms. All characters begin at level 3 (or lower, if an LA applies). Stats are set by a 30 point buy.

Hit Points
Characters begin at Level 1 with max hit points, then are awarded an alternating median (low-high-low-high...) as levels are gained. For example, a d6 HD character with no Con bonus gets 6hp at L1, then 3hp at L2, 4hp at L3, 3hp at L4, 4hp at L5, and so on. Multiclassing does not affect this (e.g. a character advancing to 4th level gains the "low" value for whatever class they are taking).

Languages
Characters speak one language, plus one language per Int bonus point. Characters with an int penalty still speak one language. Additional languages may be gained via skill points. Common and Undercommon do not exist. See http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wik...nian_languages for otherwise allowable languages. Chondathan is strongly recommended in place of Common.

Equipment

  • Characters start with 2,700gp to spend (3rd level, DMG, p135, Table 5-1).
  • Masterwork items provide no benefits, but masterwork costs factor into magic item costs.
  • Free equipment (e.g. from feats in the Player's Guide to Faerun) is not permitted.

Restrictions
  • No races above LA+2 are permitted, since the starting level is 3rd.
  • Traits and flaws are not allowed.
  • Psionic abilities are not allowed. In-game psionics are treated as arcane magic.

Core or FR books only. So a class from Eberron would be a no.

As for what else is allowed...

That is an important distinction, core and FR books only. Next time, make sure you say that first!

Sorry, I may have mislead. By core, I don't just mean the PHB, but the Complete series as well, and any other official 3.5 books that weren't tied to other settings.

That's a bit more expansive, then. Core is usually PHB, PHB2, DMG, DMG2 and of course MMI+

Tarin stood under the rickety awning of the Red Rock, running his blue orbs, the colour of the Moonsea in deep winter, over the worn ad for the third time.
His usual stoic expression was broken only by a sigh. He'd called the Red Rock home since leaving the Freedom Riders and returning from the travails that had embroiled him in an effort to return the Sword of the Dales to Daggerdale's rightful ruler, Randel Morn.

The last few seasons had seen him with the Company of the Silver Spear, hunting Zhent stragglers and infiltrators alongside goblinoids and worse out of the Desertsmouth Mountains. It had not ended well for the Company and the glory days of the Freedom Riders seemed far behind him now.

Droplets of The Fading rain trickled down from his cloak hood to his worn leather boots, mirroring the leaves on the trees all about. Soon it would be Leafall, he thought. Perhaps this Highharvestide, he would spend in Shadowdale in the company of some other "highly skilled and motivated individuals..."
Tarin grinned and shrugged, then turned to walk back into the pouring rain and make his way to the infamous Old Skull Inn...

Stop me if you've heard this tale before. That there's a local well nearby that folks can toss a coin in and if they make a wish, it might just come true. Might be spring round here, might be a pond. What matters is the waters fresh and clear. The coin usually doesn't have to be worth much usually a fang or a thumb or some such. What matters is there's payment. Young lovers tend to cast a coin before their wed, a merchant before a particularly audacious deal. And when the drums of war sound, you'll get the odd spouse hoping their loved ones return from the battlefield alive. Local superstition, surely. Few truely believe it'll come to much, but if it might just cause Tymora to turn your way it can't hurt. But what if I tell you, somewhere near Peldan's Helm, there was young girl, head near-filled with tales of Archwizards and sorcereresses who asked for magic? And even more, years later, on her sixteenth birthday, with dark elves striking from the mists, they say something answered?

Details of the fae entity who responded to her fang are left purposefully vague. Drace swore an oath to become a squire of the fey knight as part of her tuition, but the consequences and responsibilities of that are not yet clear to her.

As someone who fights in SCA, I disagree with this pretty strongly. You can tell the second a sword hits your hand if it's good or not, and proper balance on these things improves my chances of landing hits by a lot more than 1 in 20.

I have a dwarven teifling paladin. Follower of Haela Brightaxe.

"What seems like a happy and boisterous dwarf stands before you. Clad in Iron scalemail with scarves and sashes of warm and inviting colors wrapped about him. He carries his hammer and shield gleefully. When you look closer however there are subtle signs that something is...off. When he laughs you catch a glimpse of sharp teeth where molars should be, his fingernails are a thick grey rock, his body gives off waves of heat that are barely visible in the air around him, and that cut on his cheek. Is that red substance floating out of the wound sand?"
