Newcomers, don't be shy, come and introduce yourself! Our members will be delighted to bring you into the fold.

Hullo there, travelers! Stay awhile, and listen!

I'm very new to this site but am familiar with PbP already. Looking for some fun D&D games to join, but have experience with PF, DungeonWorld, Shadowrun, and Numenera, albeit slight on all counts. Didn't really have time in real life to sustain a tabletop game. Which brings me here.

Where should I start, though? Should I just apply for a random game? Or are there more noob-friendly games out there that I can join? Specifically 5e, since I want to get better in knowing the system and playing classes.

Greetings, @Vladzaros!

You may want to want to review the information found in the New to Play-by-Post thread. It gives good info about how we do PBP, which may be a little different than what you are used to. Also check out the Myth-Weavers Site Rules.

Make sure to poke around the site a the other places, besides the Games & Ads. There is a lot of good information, and a lot of good conversations going on. Get involved in conversations about game systems you know, ask about game systems you don't know about. Check out our Discord server...which is also a great place to meet up with people and see other games being posted.

So, the way things work here is players don't get invited to games. GMs will put up an ad for a game, and players will apply for the game. Some game systems will only get a handful of applicants while other, more popular ones (3.5E, 5E, Pathfinder...), will get up towards 20 applicants wanting to play in the game. So, head on over to the Games & Ads forum and see what is advertising. If nothing catches your interest right away, hang out and check out the other forums, or get on Discord and meet people. For every game system out there, there are people here interested in playing.

Also, if you see a game for a system you aren't familiar with, but the game sounds interesting, don't discount it. Often, they have better campaign settings than Pathfinder or D&D, and are easier to get into. And often...the system is better. One of my favorite systems I found at random when someone posted about it on here.

We have a lot of 5E games going on right now, and more start weekly. If you don't find something immediately, don't get frustrated. The Adventurer's League games are pretty much first come first serve, and you should be able to get a game there pretty quickly.

Most of all, whatever you do, have fun!

Hi @TatteredKing!

Thanks for the links. I'll definitely lurk a bit mire before going to the Games. Is it advisable to join an Adventure League game right away? How long do they usually run?

The AL group has a general OOC chat thread. Ask them! They are more than happy to answer that, I bet!

I'm one of the DM's in the AL group; welcome!

Whether or not it's advisable is entirely up to you. How comfortable are you with just jumping right in? Do you need help with character creation? Are you wanting to get your feet wet by reading things first?

As for how long they run, it depends on the mod. Most mods are designed for 2-4 hours of tabletop play, which translates to roughly 2-4 months of PBP (not including pre-game chit-chat or character creation). Some games run much longer than that. For example, I'm running Curse of Strahd right now, and we've been at it since the beginning of March. And the players have just finally gotten to sit down with Rictavio and ask him questions. So there's at least another year to go with this one.

Told ya they were friendly!
