Lich making

In general a Lich is an abomination against something that is holy and/or natural. So if you world has more natural deities then the defiling of nature and innocent creatures. If your world is more Elder and Spirit based then the trapping of old souls and the consumption of new ones. Or if the world has more Divine and Holy Deities, that things like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness and self-control must be defiled.

Try something a little different. Have a Lich that uses their magic to disguise their disgusting self so they can blend in and walk around towns normally. Then give them great social skills and have them corrupt lawful good clerics and paladins, while ostensibly using their wealth to ingratiate themselves into the community - making them even harder to remove.

The most interesting part of this set up is that your PCs will have a period of time where they are friendly with their antagonist and have a chance to understand the circumstances that would cause her to seek lichdom. Think about why your villain wants to become a lich and what being a lich will help them accomplish.

For example, perhaps they seek to destroy a settlement that is razing forests and polluting water in the name of industrial progress. These are goals your PCs would also actively pursue. Only, your villain believes they can re-purpose the souls and lives of the city to become a lich that can ensure the protection of nature for all eternity. Their goals would then be to cut off supplies and accelerate the destruction of the city; which would present the PCs with an ethical dilemma when they are confronted with the suffering of the city's people and the villain's own extreme beliefs. Your PCs might then turn against the villain offering their own solution; or they might agree to work with the villain.
