Welcome to Agents of Sigil


Agents of Sigil is an expansive collaborative project that will be introducing a new system to the play-by-posting format. It will give every player the chance to create the character they have always dreamed of making, have them go wherever they wish to go, and have them interact with others in small and large groups with one-off style missions ranging from 1 to 16 people.

You will have the chance to build relationships, make an impact in the dynamic world of Sigil and other planes of existence, and explore wherever you wish to explore. Agents of Sigil is a Sandbox game if you wish it to be, or it can be a railroad game should you wish it to be. There is a story around every corner so you can make your own path in this MMO inspired game.



City of Sigil



Sigil is located atop the Spire in the Outlands. It has the shape of a torus; the city itself is located on the inner surface of the ring. There is no sky, simply an all-pervasive light that waxes and wanes to create day and night. Sigil cannot be entered or exited save via portals; although this makes it quite safe from any would-be invader, it also makes it a prison of sorts for those not possessing a portal key. Thus, sometimes Sigil is called "The Cage". Though Sigil is pseudo-geographically located "at the center of the planes" (where it is positioned atop the infinitely tall Spire), scholars argue that this is impossible since the planes are infinite in all dimensions, and therefore there can never truly be a center to any or all of them; thus, Sigil is of no special importance. Curiously, from the Outlands one can see Sigil atop the supposedly infinite Spire.

Sigil contains innumerable portals that can lead to anywhere in the Dungeons & Dragons cosmology: any bounded opening (a doorway, an arch, a barrel hoop, a picture frame) could possibly be a portal to another plane, or to another point in Sigil itself. Thus, the city is a paradox: it touches all planes at once, yet ultimately belongs to none; from these characteristics, it draws its other name: "The City of Doors".



The Guild


Agents of Sigil is a True Neutral adventurer's guild inside the city of Sigil. The guild takes any and all types of creatures and beings of any alignment and of any creed. Their public goal is to save planes from the brink of destruction regardless of whether they are ruled by good or evil forces ( an example of a world ruled by evil would be Farland). Unofficially, the guild conducts many other operations such as research experiments in worlds previously saved by the guild and it is also a major player in the underground politics of Sigil.



Prestige Races


Agents of Sigil will be introducing a new homebrew mechanic called Prestige Races. Two races have been developed thus far and two more are in the works. So far applicants can play as the Angelic Deva or a Demigod race known as the Elhiem. You can find out more about creating a Deva or an Elhiem in The Planar Travelers Guide PDF found here. (This is still a work in progress and liable to change)



Character Creation


We will be accepting 8 people to help us get the new system going. Once everything is fleshed out, we will have rolling acceptance like the Adventure League.

To see how you can make your own application follow this link. The following is some of the approved content for this game, but more can be found in the forums:
  • Characters Start at level 17!
  • Pre-approved homebrew can be found here!
  • All UA is allowed
  • All races are allowed
  • All classes are allowed
  • MultiClassing is allowed (Must be approved to multi-class with UA or Homebrew)
  • Bonus level 1 feat (No variant human in exchange)
  • Prestige Races are allowed
  • All Animals are available as pets (with RP approval. Higher the rarity / cr the harder it is to get approval.)
  • All backgrounds are available
  • All Alignments are allowed (evil characters must follow the evil guidelines found in House Rules)
  • Determine starting items using this thread.

Mission:
The creators of Agents of Sigil first and foremost wish to make a fun game. How we differ from others is that we are not afraid to innovate and adapt to allow everyone to make their dream character and to show off their story. We will be innovating the PBP format, making more prestige races, and introducing a new system for going past level 20 as just a few examples of our plans going forward.

Our team has been very excited for this day after hours of work put into lore, mechanics, and characters. While a lot of what we have done is still hidden away to be discovered by players in the future, we hope you are still excited to play this game as we are.

Update on Prestige Races:

A few people have been asking questions about future prestige races so I thought I would give my response here.

Many races are being planned out to be developed in the future, but it takes us time to create each race and balance it. So, if you would like to create a character of a powerful race we have not yet created (or imagined) then you can send us your own finalized version of the prestige race for review. If we accept it you can make your character as that race and you will have your name in the credits of the Planar Travelers Guide. It will not help or hurt your chances of acceptance though.

Wow this looks really cool. I do have a question though, can homebrew worlds of the players exist and potentially whole other games exist within this game of yours. Was just thinking how it would be cool if a game was run from level 1 to 20 and eventually the players ended up in the guild. Would be a wild thing to see.

If someone wanted to run a game with Agents of Sigil being cannon I would be all for including them in our lore. I doubt we'll see such a thing anytime soon, but I wouldn't rule it out as a possibility.

Homebrew worlds are allowed and encouraged for character origin. However, you can always feel free to apply with a Sigil native.

Thank you kindly for the high praise. It definitely brought a smile to my face to see this comment. It was a group effort though and I am constantly amazed at how people will rally to build grand projects such as this one. I really couldn't have done it without all the contributors pitching in.

Anyway, maybe I'll see you when we open up for rolling acceptance or in my next crazy idea should you have the time then.

When rolling games begin will they start at different levels? I havent really played 5e yet and really want to go from a new adventurer to the god-like powers of higher levels. If not it still looks like an amazing world to be a part of, and you guys have done something amazing!
