Burnt Offerings Part I - Festival of Fire

Recognizing old friends among the dockyard workers, Aggezar walks over to them and takes a position on their rope. When the start of the contest is called, the half-orc pulls with all of his

might (5), slips, and ends up in the mud.

At the conclusion of the Tag-of-war, Agezzar hurries over to the sacks, pulls one up to his waist, and awaits the start. As soon as the signal is givien, he begins to

hop (7) as though his life depended on it. Not understanding the game, Shaataq tackles his master to the ground and starts pawing at him, as though he were a giant ball of yarn.

Lastly, Agezzar squares off at the starting line for the Spartan Race. He briefly

scans (3) the ladies on the other side before settling on the average looking one. Racing over, he picks her up and slings her across his shoulders. As he does so, the stink of her fills him with disgust. He races down Market street trying to breathe as little as possible. Crossing the

bridge (13), he briefly considers dumping the woman in just to get her clean, but his competitiveness gets the better of him, and he continues.

With his intimate knowledge of the

woods (13), he easily, and quickly, navigates the path and heads back to town.

Again considering this woman's need for a bath, Agezzar

decides (15) to keep running. He wants to win this race more than he wants her clean. It would be over soon enough, and then he could EAT!

Huffing and puffing, Agezzar

runs (13) for all he is worth until he reaches the finish-line.

For the Tag-of-War rematch, the half-orc redoubles his efforts and

concentrates (8) on not falling in the mud. He fails miserably, blames the rope, and lies there in the mud, protesting.

The crowd cheers and shouts as Aggezar races into Market Square huffing and puffing, carrying his woman over his shoulders. Shaataq follows quickly behind, rejoicing with all the attention. Being the only racer to complete the Spartan Race, Aggezar's achivment is no doubt the talk of the townsfolk for the next few hours.

Not a long time passes before the Glassmakers team with Chatahee and the Dokyard team with Aggezar stand ready for the Tag-o-War match event and the crowd is ecstatic cheering both teams competing for the 2ed place.
As the referee gives the sign, the glassmakers start pulling on the rope giving everything they have! Chatahee groans as he pulls the rope his muscles tense with the effort (rolled a damn good 24!). The sudden pull on the rope throws Aggezar out of balance and he falls to the ground protesting that the rope is too slippery. The three dockyard men do their best to pull the glassworkers back.

In addition, Aggezar gains another +1 bonus on Diplomacy skill checks when communicating with dockyard workers. Chatahee gains a +2 bonus on Diplomacy skill checks when communicating with Glassworkers.

Cathedral Square
Sandpoint
Noon, Autumn Equinox, 22ed of Rova, 4707AR
At noon the crowd gathers again at the Cathedral Plaza. Father Zantus and his acolytes wheel a large covered wagon into the square. He then climbs on the stage and waits for everyone to be quiet. As the parents hush their kids, Father Zantus begins to recount the legends of Desna.
"While all the gods were busy creating the Earth, Desna created the Heavens. WHen the work was done, she was facinated with all the planes and worlds the gods created, and started traveling the planes. During one of her travels she met with a great adversary sent against her by the evil goddess Lamashtu. After a long and hard fight, she fell wounded to the earth, and was found here by a blind child. The child took care of her and nursed her back to health. But healing a goddess takes too much from a human child and he fell sick and was soon doomed to die. Desna, could not prevent his death, but in her wisdom she found another way to reward him. She turned him into an immortal butterfly who can safely travel the earth even to this day!"

As father Zantus ends the story, his acolytes pull aside the wagon's cover, releasing a thousand children of Desna - a furious storm of swallowtail butterflies that swarm into the air in a spiraling riot of color to a great cheer from the crowd! Throughout the rest of the day, children futilely chase butterflies, never quite quick enough to catch them.

OOCLunch Time!!
Lunch is provided free, at the expense of Sandpoint's taverns. Each brings its best dishes - this event is as much a marketing push by the taverns to win new customers as it is to feed a hungry crowd. At the Rusty Dragon you can taste some of Ameiko's curry-spiced salmon and Early Winterdrop Mead. The White Deer serves Martha's Peppercorn Venison and Shoanti Bogroots Ale. The Hag Fish serves Lady Quinn's Lobster Chowder and Fisherman's Beer, and at Risa's Place you can eat as many of Risa's spiced potatoes and roasted pheasant as you can chew! If it is deserts you want, at Cracktooth Tavern Berinni makes his legendary cinnamon apples, and at Sandpoint Savories the Avertin twins baked blackberry and redberry pies all morning! Solsta Vinder's famous pumpkin pie is given free of charge at the Vinder's General Store.

The next big festival event, the Consecration Ceremony, will take place at sunset at the Cathedral Plaza. You can take your time to visit places and talk to people. Unless you tell me otherwise I will assume you all return to the Cathedral Plaza a few minutes before sunset.

His Orcish ancestry showing through, Agezzar thoroughly gorges himself before finding a nice tree to fall asleep under with his cat.

Chatahee likewise gorges himself fit to burst, trades sweets for preserved food of all sorts and then finds Agezzar once more, cat-napping on the other side of the tree, leaning against his polearm. After something of a siesta, he rises and walks around the town, seeing it through the eyes of a soldier.

It seemed to him that the place was a sorry mess defensively. Under the cover of a mist one could land an army on the beach or in the harbour and be on the town before anyone was any the wiser.

Moving on still further, he has a good look at Old Light before turning and regarding Chopper Isle with speculative eyes.

Where can a man find a good mug of ale and a pretty warm body?

Getting some good laughs and cheering on Aggezar and Chatahee with their attempts on winning the competitions, Jackson flirts with some of the local girls and woman that have come out to watch the festivities. When noon arrives, and Father Zantus makes his small speech, he follows the two new companions to the food and though he does eat, he doesn’t gorge himself to the point of comatose. While Aggezar and Chatahee take naps, Jackson wonders around the festival, though keeping the two within eye sight so that if someone were to try taking advantage of their unconsciousness he could help them.

Arriving back to the tree where Aggezar had chosen to take his nap, he notices that Chatahee has risen and starts to walk away from the tree. Catching up at him quickly, “It seems that the social event isn’t what you are use to Chatahee? You seem to be a tactical man, both from the look of your weapon and the way you are always watching your surroundings,” hopefully the half-elf wouldn’t think that he was prying, just stating what he’d seen from the man since their meeting earlier in the day.

Parice was lost, that was the only way she could describe it, which was weird, because she still knew exactly where she was. Once the Mayor was done with her speech Parice had just been swept up by the crowd, dragged from place to place with the current of excited people, getting bumped into, bumping into others, not knowing exactly where she was or what she was supposed to do, but she managed to snag with her an odd piece of pastry or cooked meat from a few stalls on her way through. She had never been in such a large gathering of people, they didn't have anything close to this back at the nunery.

She had no idea how to react to all the noise, the crowd, the atmosphere, but she somehow managed to enjoy herself in the chaos, until finally, the games were over, in which she had been picked up and carried twice without her even knowing she was participating, and the crowd had once again drifted back to the square, where she managed to find Aggezar once again due to his trusted polearm, weaving and oushing her eay through the crowd as best she could before she managed to get to the Half-orc, grabbing onto his shirt just to make sure she didn't lose him in the crowd again
"That" she had to take a break there to regain her breath, trying to get control of her now messy hair with her free hand.
"Was absolutelty horrible!" She continued " People everywhere, all the noise, all the shoving and eating and getting dirty and yelled at and getting carried around without knowing what to do... why do I enjoy it so much?" She looked up at Azzegar with large, sparkling green eyes, hoping that he, as an obvious outsider, might have some more insight into this oddly enjoyable new experience

Chatahee grins broadly at Jackson, and drawls his way into a response... "A social event is when, after you've painted the land red with the blood of your enemies, you set about looting the enemy's camp and come across their warlord's hidden stash of apple brandy. Said warlord doesn't mind... his head being on a pike n' all."

He shrugs with practiced insouciance and adds..."This place comes up short on the dead enemies, burning bodies and crazy I didn't die laughter."

Looking across at Chopper Island...

"I imagine there's stuff still out there waiting to be claimed. From what I hear the reputation of the place, and the fact that the local sheriff destroyed the stairs, keeps people away."

Without so much as opening his eyes, Agezzar listens to the nun speak and then smiles. "We spend our childhood wanting nothing more than to grow up as fast as possible. Then we finally do grow up and realize it's nothing like we thought it would be. Is it really so surprising that as adults we yearn for the simplicity of being a child again?"

" Children like this?" She gave him an even more puzzling look as she straightened herself up, and got her hair in order under her sun yellow veil, looking around, catching glimpses of tiny excited bodies running around chasing butterflies or eating sweets, fighting, playing, crying, laughing. "I always liked peace and quiet as a child, walk in the monestary garden, read, enjoy the scent of brewing liqour... I guess I was just an odd child"
