Chromatic Council - Campaign Setting
Hello everyone! Doran here and I am working on quote the project at the moment and I need some place to bounce ideas off of, and this seemed like the perfect place to do it. I am currently in the process of developing a setting for a D&D 5e game that I want to run and so far my ideas have been fairly good in my opinion, but I am at something of a brick wall. At the moment I only have base line ideas and a bit of history, no real names or anything solid at this point. Below you will find all of the information I have come up with and an idea of where I am looking to take this game and Campaign Setting.
Now bare with me as I currently have no names for any locations, the one thing I am absolutely terrible with is naming things. Everything I come up with sounds horrid or unimaginative.
To begin, this is a very draconic heavy world. As far back as I have gone in the history starts with the Dragon Wars. Hundreds of hears in the past, the world was ruled over by the amazing Great Council, which consisted of the most powerful and eldest ancient great wyrm metallic dragons. Each type of metallic dragon was represented in a council that worked together to keep peace within the world and protect it's people. Secretly something was happening that no one had expected. The Chromatic Dragons began to work together and formed the "Chromatic Council" consisting of the most powerful and eldest Great Wyrm Chromatic Dragons. After amassing enough power and large enough armies, war broke out and the Chromatic Council wiped the metallic dragons and their blood kin from the world.
After the war, the Chromatic Council took commanding rule of the world and established a harsh order with their spawn of Chromatic Dragonborn. With each of the chromatic dragon types represented, and all resenting one another. Always having an endless thirst for more power, they kept the "Peace" simply by keeping one another in check. Never letting the others gain enough power to over throw the council.
That is the basic outline I have at the moment. Some more in depth details are below:
Dieties: Bahumut, Tiamatt.
Since the take over by the Chromatic Council, all worship of Bahumutt has been completely outlawed and as a result all use of holy magic is punishable by death. This at one point caused an issue for me in restricting the game to no healing classes, until I decided to go with a variant mage class that allowed for arcane healing and it fits well into the setting. This would allow me to remove the cleric and paladin classes until later in the game.
I am working on an over-arching campaign to run in this setting as well but want to focus on the setting itself for the moment. Any input anyone would have would be greatly appreciated. I understand that it is vague and there is not much to it, but It is a work in progress and I am just looking for some input at the moment. Thank you in advance!
