Narrative Sample
The sound of crunching snow quickly dissipated around the woods. Elaine quickly slammed herself behind the towering trees that provided them cover from both the falling white of the sky, and from the target. There was a beast here, and the village was in danger. Elaine motioned to her group with the hand signals only they knew. Though rudimentary and simple, they got the job done. This was her squad. She wasn't perfect, but she knew what they needed to succeed.

With a nod of her head, they ran off. Samuel took the lead, and dealt the first blow. It was a grand hit, but now the beast was aware. The warm breathe could be seen in the cold of the woods, and Samuel's blow was returned with a heavy swing of the Monster's fist. Samuel! Elaine cried. Take a deep breathe, calm yourself and aim for the armpits! We've done this many times before! She had faith in her comrades and as Samuel stood she smiled.

Her fellow compatriots then showed up to fight the fiend. Though the ambush was perfect, the beast stood twice their size and stood with legs like the trunks of the trees. The dark matted hair on its arms were well forged like iron. As Elaine drew her weapon and stared down the foe she couldn't help but smile. She nodded at her friends and they charged just as the beast began to let out its primordial roar.

Elaine Johnson! What did I tell you about playing adventure while I'm working?

The Monster wasn't pleased. Elaine began to sweat. What if he made her volunteer at the Morrison's pig farm again? She quickly signaled to her party to retreat. It was better to live and lose than to die for glory. Next time the beast would be hers.
