Some are born with good in their heart. They perform good deeds, they champion justice and they live their lives altruistically. They espouse kindness, charity and honesty. They protect the weak, they help those in need and they vanquish evil and tyranny wherever they travel. When they cannot do these things, they are willing to die trying, giving their lives for the greater good. They are heroes of the brightest light.
Some are born with evil in their heart. They perform evil deeds, they use and manipulate for their own gain and they live their lives for themselves. They epitomize selfishness, cruelty and oppression. They take advantage of those weaker than them, they betray and abuse those in need and they leave a taint wherever they travel. When they cannot do those things, they lie, cheat, steal and kill until they get their way, taking lives to get ahead. They are villains of the blackest night.
But what of those that walk the road inbetween? What of those that do good, motivated by evil? What of those that walk the path of villainy with the best of intentions? What can be said of those that fall into the cracks, not fitting into either side, by choice or by chance? While some live within the white and others dwell in the back, many unsung heroes and honorable villains live their lives in shades of grey.
