Kyoso: The Land of Arceus's Gift
"In the beginning, there was nothing.
Time stretched for an eternity, yet never lasted a second.
The universe was vast, yet infinitesimal.
Everything was empty, null and void.
In an instant, Arceus was.
The first being in this universe, none can say from whence it came, only that it had power.
With its power, it created order. It sanctioned the laws of entropy, gave the formless universe dimensions. Created atoms, molecules, matter. After time, forming that matter into shapes.
Eons passed, time meant very little to Arceus. Over time, the laws and principles he had placed upon reality caused the universe as we know it to take shape.
Gradually, galaxies, stars, and planets began to settle out of the cosmic stew. Arceus simply watched. After some time, he began to feel something strange. He desired that the universe should be empty no longer, there should be others.
Others like him.
Arceus divided portions of his infinite power to several beings, each in charge of a different aspect.
Dialgia who would become the tether of time.
Palkia who would become the guardian of space.
Giratina who would become the antithesis of his brothers, the void itself.
With the creation of these three, Arceus was no longer needed to manage the universe as a whole. He turned his attention to an insignificant dot in the vast universe. He began to shape our world.
He architected the skies - Rayquaza
He cut the skies in two, giving the lower half a new form - Kyougre
He rose up solid ground, in all its diversity - Groudon
When he saw that the world was cast in endless shadow he built the sun and shaped the moon.
The worldly realm now stable, he set to the task of creating true, independent life.
He created Mew, the first true 'Pokemon'. A creature with limitless potential, unending possibilities open to it, and an empty world to inherit. In short time, Mew terraformed the new planet, filling the world with its diverse forms, some taking to the trees, the seas, the deserts, the mountains.
Our world had begun.
Over the generations, the Mew's powers were diluted, forming into more traditional Pokemon as we know them. In these early days, many pokemon became truly Legendary for their feats and were often noticed by Arceus and his other early creations.
Gifted with eternal lifespans and responsibilities, many of these legends are still around today."
Letting her hands rest, the woman closes the book, placing it in her lap.
"I'm truly sorry, I must be boring you. I'm sure you're wondering where we fit in. After all, I haven't mentioned humans at all, have I?"
The woman laughs softly, standing up to continue speaking.
"I suppose that's truly the beauty of it.
Even though Arceus created Pokemon himself, over time, other living beings began to fill the earth. Most were exceptionally shortlived, very primitive things not able to compete with the cunning and abilities that Pokemon possessed.
The one exception however, was man. Compared to where we are today, early man only had scraps of intelligence, relying mostly on instinct and brute force. Arceus took a great interest in this strange species, for the first time unsure of how to treat them.
They were not his equal, nor his children, nor children of his children. They were...something unique. He saw much potential in them.
And so, for the first time in ages, Arceus created three children to guide us.
From one, humans gained true intelligence, able to learn and grow.
From one, humans gained free will, able to follow their own path.
From one, humans gained emotions, able to feel and empathize.
...and finally, Arceus gifted humanity with a fraction of his powers. This, of course, is what we often call the Gift...though I suppose it goes by many names these days.
Aura, psychokinesis, ESP...it all depends on who you ask.
In modern times, there are many who do not believe that what I've told you is true. However, I'm quite confident in this tale. I would suggest that you should be as well."
