The Garrison
San Angelos is the combined city of Los Angels and San Diego after the earthquake of '55 triggered by the mutant terrorist known as Big Shake. During his fight with the LA based superteam, The Call, he created an 9.2 scale earthquake that shattered most of the region between LA and San Diego, in effect ruining both cities.
(The fall out from this attack also increased hostilities between the normal population and mutants, feeding the fires of McCarthism that expanded his programs to anti-mutant witch hunts. The social effects against mutants echo to this day.)
Super hero teams and the US government rushed to their aid. Pooling together the post WW2 resources of America was tough, it the country was engaged in the beginnings of the Korean War at the team. It was decided to scrap the old cities and build the largest sprawling metropolis on the west coast, one to rival New York's 5 boroughs in size and scope.
Thus was born the newly christened San Angelo. Powered by the surviving movie industry and bleeding edge technology of the time, the true city of America's modern future was born.
San Angelo is always on the leading edge of technology development and experimental social laws of the country. A progressive city in a progressive state, its willingness to embrace change is the city's motto.
This also attracts all level of crime and is a frequent target of groups wishing to show their power. Only the strongest of heroes can hope to champion the citizens of San Angelos.
