The Port of Mist and Shadow
In July 1878, the waning Ottoman Empire transferred administrative control of the island of Cyprus to the British Empire. Under the control of High Commissioner Garnet Wolseley, administration teams began their work around the island. Some say the first decades of British rule were hard, due to high taxes, droughts, and world economic hardship that brought about an exodus from the island. That may have been only part of the truth.
In fact darker things were stirring on the island. Tales of monsters creeping the dark forests and back alleys reached the ears of the populace. Stories of ancient curses and the dead come back are on the lips of everyone in the bars and taverns across the island. Once rumors start, they can be hard to stop.
Especially if they're true.
You're in Kyrenia, a northern town with a bustling port, ancient Greek tombs, and a castle on a hill. So much trade coming in from or going to the European mainland passes through your city, especially now that the road to the capital, Nicosia, is finished. That means you see all kinds of travelers, and they bring all kinds of tales. Sometimes, they even are the tales, given flesh.
Indeed, something wicked this way comes.
