Pokemon: Gray Area
In the wake of a civil war, Unova struggles to right itself. Most people advocate for a united region once more, but there are also cries for a split - the Confederate states going one way and the Independent going the other. Meanwhile, the region's Gym Leaders try to stay above the conflict, still accepting challenges in preparation for the day when the Elite Four and Champion show up to reclaim their positions.
There are whispers that the E4 are dead, and still others claim they have left the region and hide in safety. Contrary to these rumors, however, are the seemingly random organizations of "Lookers," or special agents, that traverse Unova and attempt to rebuild connections between old friends and new enemies. The Gym Leaders hold that the E4 must be behind these efforts, but the public is bitter and most of the region is suffering from drought, wildfires, shortages, famine, and general chaos.
The world is friendly to those who can embrace a lifestyle of hard work and subsistence, but this only encourages a strongly insular attitude and worsens the relationships between neighboring cities. The Confederate states cope better thanks to their strong ties to the waterways, but both they and the Independent states are close to becoming clusters of loosely outlined states with their own independent governments. Castelia, Driftveil, and Lacunosa have already declared their own governing bodies, and now race to amass resources, supplies, and support from their populations.
It's a cold and bitter world to live in, but Unova seems to have some hope for it. Feeble rays of light flicker through the canopy of depression, anger, and cold, simmering rage that permeate the society, but these signs of hope are not enough by themselves. The region needs heroes, and more than anything, it needs a way to end the enmity between those who follow what is ideal and those who embrace the truth.
