Welcome to Pinnacle, the City of the Gods! Long ago, mortals exploring the infinite possibilities of magical power created a city which was to be the greatest achievement ever made by mortal ways. The construction of Pinnacle started a Golden Age which has lasted for thousands of years. Wealth and knowledge flow from its vaults and libraries and enrich the mortal and deific planes alike. Scholars, kings, magicians, doctors, and fighters travel to the city in hopes of fulfilling their grandest desires.
But it is not easy to enter Pinnacle. The city occupies its own plane of existence, accessed through permanent Gateways scattered throughout the Material Plane. In theory, anyone can visit the plane through those Gateways. In practice, Pinnacle maintains control of them and ensures that no enemy of the City is allowed in. The wealthiest of mortals can, for a king’s ransom, stay for a few days in the Housing inside the Low Realm and partake of the wonders offered therein. But to become a permanent resident and be granted the rights of citizenship, one must have something far greater than riches. One must be worthy.
The outermost zone of Pinnacle proper is the Circle of Challenges, where those who wish to enter Pinnacle vie for the right to do so. Entrants take a series of tests, in which they compete with other Challengers for various prizes. The highest prize is that of the Entry Challenge: citizenship in the Low Realm.
This will be a game of fights and puzzles, of teamwork and betrayal. You will face simple challenges such as “last man (or team) standing” or “capture the flag,” as well as complex political puzzles which will make your head spin. Players are encouraged but not required to form teams and to do their best to hold those teams together when things get rough. The game will progress for as long as people are interested and may even go into epic level.
Making it through the many tests of the Circle will take all of your strength, skill, and cunning. It may leave you with many trusted friends, many sworn enemies, or both. It will make you doubt yourself. It will make you wonder why you tried. It will remind you of your deepest fears…and your greatest dreams. Above all, it will be a Challenge.
