The Ascendancy of Uttercold
It has been a torrent of troubling times since the last age of heroes ended. Two prime material planes collided and joined in the Convergence, leaving the smaller - Rainien - nearly eradicated. The plane of Euos has changed, leaving imprints of Rainieni existence in places that were once known and settled. Creating opportunities for the unchecked evils to reap power and necessitating a return of heroism.
Even before that, both planes were struck by calamities of their own; The Dance of Six Dark Stars saw Ranien beset by beings of maddening form and ungodly power, and Euos was just recovering from the Empty War - a plane spanning conflict that decimated the populations and weakened the connection to the arcane humanoids had grown accustomed to.
In both of these events, the Raven Queen's connection to the plane was destroyed - leaving a shard of her portfolio unclaimed and highly sought by powerful beings of frost from both worlds.
