Character Evolution Playtest
The intended game will use something not normal for a playthrough: Template Levels. Those familiar with Savage Progressions (which has sadly disappeared) have heard of this, but this is a revised savage progression-themed concept. In which I have come to call it "Savage Progressions II: Evolutions"
Ever wanted to play a humanoid that eventually becomes an angel or fiend by every sense of the word? Done.
Ever wanted to play the evolution of an Illithid and ascend to greatness? Done.
How about a draconian creature? Doable.
Elemental? Yes
Outsider or Undead? Too many options for those exist, but yes.
Now assuredly someone's wondering how this can possibly be even done since templates don't offer means of being used as a character class right? Well that's where some DM creativity had to come into play. Each Template Level's HD, BAB, Saves, and Skills are covered by Racial HD.
Allowed Sources: Core books (duh), Book of Exalted Deeds, Book of Vile Darkness, Cityscape, Complete Psionic, Deities and Demigods, Draconomicon, Dragonlance Campaign Setting, Expanded Psionics Handbook, Fiend Folio, Fiendish Codex I and II, Heroes of Horror, Libris Mortis, Lords of Madness, Magic of Incarnum, Manual of the Planes, Monster Manual II - V, Planar Handbook, Races of the Dragon, Sandstorm, Savage Species, Secrets of Xen’drik, Stormwrack, Tome of Magic, and Underdark, Unearthed Arcana.
Others may be allowed if I have the book in question. Inquire with me in the Ad. The focus is on the Templates, the Feats, and the Races (Including Racial Levels, to be treated as template levels, use sparingly).
