Game Description

This is an adaption of the AD&D module "Against the Cult of the Reptile God" for 5th edition D&D, set in a custom setting based on Norse mythology. I am looking for 4-6 players beginning at level 1. Players can either design their own characters according to the rules in the 5e PHB or the Basic Rules, or they can use one of several pregenerated characters I'll be providing. The pregen characters are mechanically complete, but players that choose to use them will need to fill in details about their background and personalities, and are encouraged to develop the characters as they see fit.

Word of warning, this particular module does have a reputation for being rather dangerous (though not to the same extent as say, the Tomb of Horrors). Tread carefully, and be aware that you may or may not make it through the adventure in one piece.

In hopes of keeping things from going off the rails too quickly, we're going to assume that the party members are not total strangers and have adventured together before. Feel free to work with one another in designing your characters or choosing your backgrounds. This applies doubly if you're planning on using one of the pregen characters, some effort put into integrating that character with the rest of the party would be very much appreciated.

Character Creation:
Use the standard set of scores for starting characters (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8), at least for now. I will consider allowing anyone that loses a character to use point buy or roll for their stats the second time around. Please start a thread for your character in the applications folder, even if you are just tweaking one of the pregen characters.

Human characters should use the variant human traits (+1 to two stats of their choice, one free Feat, one free skill proficiency).

Good or Neutral characters are preferred, Evil characters are allowed, technically, but unless they have very, very good reasons to work well with the rest of the group I'm likely to ask for an alignment change. The same goes for Chaotic Neutral.

All of the classes and races in the PHB are available, although monks may not entirely fit the Norse themed setting. Still, they're available if anyone really badly wants to play one. Several classes have minor tweaks to keep in mind when making your character (the details of which can be found here).

I'll be closing applications once I've selected six players, or on the 25th if we have at least four players.

Houserules and Variants:

  • Feats are available (PHB pg. 165)
  • Human characters use the variant traits that provide a bonus feat and skill proficiency (PHB pg. 31).
  • Skills with Different Abilities (PHB pg. 175).
  • Group Initiative. Initiative is rolled as normal, players may post in whatever order they wish between each of the DMs turns.
  • The setting uses a custom pantheon.
  • There are also several small tweaks to the classes that players should be aware of.
