Ascension of the Dragon
History culminates in the Vright Empire in the year 1231 W.R., as the empire's forces clash against the forces of the Necromancer's Daughter along the southern border. Meanwhile, a cult with political machinations brings their 15-year plot to a head in a bold move against the parliament of the empire, deposing one of the most well-respected pillars of society. Across the sea, a holy war rages between the two greatest gods of Golarion, Sarenrae and Zon-Kuthon, and practitioners of these faiths are called for by their followings to leave and join their brethren.
But all of this is muted by the swirling snow, the towering canyon walls - caked in ice - that jut high above the path, and the tall and silent pines that spread boughs far over the frozen ground.
You are northbound, along the last trail to stretch this far, towards a small settlement called the Far End. Raised up as the last bastion of society in a forgotten wasteland, the Far End is a mining community that survives because of the rich mithral deposits in the area. Although they get along, they teeter precariously on the edge of survival and death, and are often one supply train away from starving to death.
You know that a warm lodge and cozy bed await you, as you've already received correspondence from the proprietor of the Way Inn Lodge in the form of letters, and he's eager to have more adventurers to assist him in keeping the town afloat. He's built you a cabin to share with the other people he's bringing north, and says it's one of the finest in the town.
But as it is, you're nearly three days travel south of the Far End, and the prospect of a warm bed seems a sweet dream indeed.
