Game Description

The landscape is dotted with ruins of ancient palaces where strange beasts and phantoms of past ages roam freely. The will of local tyrants is often the only law and, in the shadows, evil priests pray to their dark gods so that this troubled era may end as an even worse one may start.

This is the era of Beasts and Barbarians.

SynopsisWelcome the to the world of Beasts and Barbarians, where brutal men and woman will struggle to survive in a dangerous and untamed world. The seat of civilization, the Iron Empire, is collapsing in on itself. The Northlander clans set out in search of riches and glory. To the West, the inhuman Tricarnians build a kingdom on the backs of slaves. From the mystic East, Lhoban monks come to fight a losing battle against the demonic hordes. The Dread Sea itself is home to pirates and outlaws as well as Ascaia, the island of Amazon warriors.

The Dread Sea Dominions need heroes, whether they be Amazon or Assassin, Noble or Nomad, Barbarian or Bandit. Take up your sword and carve a name for yourself. If you survive, you may become a king or even a living legend.

About MeI'm an old hand at tabletop RPGs but new to play by post. Most of the games that I've run or played in over the years have been heavily grounded in the Sword and Sorcery genre. As far as Savage Worlds - I've run several games in the system; everything from high fantasy to superheroes to modern day monster hunters.

My preferred style is to empower my players and facilitate Crowning Moments of Awesome for their characters. What this means is that as long as something doesn't break the setting or someone else's fun, I will probably allow it.

About the GameThis will be using Savage Worlds Deluxe Edition and Beasts and Barbarians Golden Edition. The game will take place in the Dread Sea Dominion - the setting described within Beast and Barbarians. I know that there are a number of supplements for the setting, but I haven't read them and will not be considering them as "canon" for this game. In fact, things will most likely deviate from that baseline as the game progresses and heroes leave their mark upon the world.

Sword and Sorcery tales tend to be short, largely unrelated stories and that's a feeling that I hope to keep that feeling as we develop a narrative over time together.

About Your CharacterSpecific information regarding house rules will be contained in its own thread within the game forum, but they will be few. Other than the mechanics, your characters are the heroes - the wielders of swords and/or sorcery. Distressed damsels and naive nobles they are not. All characters are expected to be varying degrees of hardened, brutal, and strapped for cash.

When applying within, please try to give a synopsis of your character, a picture, a couple of "hooks" that I can exploit work in, and an idea of where you want to see this go. Goals for your character should be personal in scale like "captain his own pirate vessel" or "murder the nobles responsible for killing her family."

Application will be ongoing. I don't know my limit yet, so I may have to cut things off after a while. Post an application or send a message if you're interested.
