It has been 200 years since the Plague first appeared, two centuries since the dead began to rise and hunt the living. Two hundred years since seventy percent of the world's population died, and a new dark age began. It is 2105, and London still lives. The capital of the Neo-Victorian Empire, the sky is darkened by the by-product of a thousand crematoria and ten million souls live behind the towering walls that separate London from the Blighted wastelands outside.
It is the greatest surviving city of the living, built upon the bones of the dead. Countless spirits haunt the city, while monsters both inhuman and mortal stalk the streets. Scientists and physicians commit daily atrocities in their ceaseless search for the elixir vitae, the fabled panacea that will cure the Plague and grant eternal life. Groups of anarchists seek to topple the government and overthrow the unjust regime, failing to recognize that the police state they wish to overthrow is the only thing keeping the city as safe as it is. Below the smog-choked streets, clans of degenerate cannibals known as ghouls purchase human flesh from illegal meat-markets, rubbing shoulders with those who pursue the outlawed sciences of reanimation. And all the while, the jaded aristocracy lives in privilege and wealth, falling prey to far more ephemeral and insidious threats than those faced by the lower classes.
This is London, the city at the center of the world. The city of ten million souls and ten million stories. This is the city of back-alley rogues and cobblestone saints. This is the Unhallowed Metropolis.
