Game Description

Overlooking the desolate fields of the Dreadland Plains, Exsecror Templum, the infamous sanctuary of the damned remained a permanent blight on the world. The Necromancer and his cult terrorized the continent Dorhiel with unrelenting fervor. With every assault, the four kingdoms found themselves on the losing side of a seemingly endless war of attrition. Towns slowly disappeared into the darkness, soon after cities crumbled to ruin. These were dark times, and despite the countless defeats dealt upon the Necromancer, he would only seem to return that much stronger than the day before.

After all... when facing down death itself... todays allies may yet become tomorrows enemies.

With the world consumed by an all engulfing conflict, it seemed like there was nothing safe from the atrocities. For the longest time, you found your village to be a world away from worlds. These great wars, these horrible battles, none of that took place in your neck of the woods.

Life was calm, peaceful... tranquil.

But with all good things, it all must come to a close. In the endless conflict against inevitability, the war had finally arrived at your doorstep. Or to be more precise... trampled over you on its way to the nearest monarchies stronghold.

The paralysis of fear, the smell of the death and the endless pools of sanguine liquid filled every moment of your now fractured memory. You dare not speak, you dare not move, in fact... breathing was something you wished you didn't have to do since it would only serve to get you noticed. Carried across the Dreadland Plains, covered and buried deep within wagons filled with lifeless husks of meat, motionless corpses torn and ripped asunder by the Necromancer's minions. You remained frozen in a state of fear.

What fate was to befall upon you...

What nightmares has this world cast upon you...

Your fear gives way to your exhaustion and you slip into unconsciousness. Only to awaken to the pungent stench of rotting corpses, the dripping of liquid panging loudly against the dark corridor floors. As you strain to move and barely push your way free from the piles, your eyes adjust to the minimal light. You were not the only one to survive.

But one thing was certain... you had wished that your memory was robbed of this god-forsaken place... because there are far worse things to behold than death at the hands of a blade.

==============

Welcome to The Waiting Game, a warped and twisted survival scape that is drenched in horror. You, and your fellow villagers, are all that remain after the Necromancer's army destroyed your entire way of life in a fell swoop. Thought to be death, the minions simply discarded you with the remains of the countless dead. No doubt, reserves to be experimented on or used in the nefarious schemes of the twisted cult that idolized the Necromancer as Death Incarnate.

As you try to recover from what seemed like entombment within a mass of corpses for days, you realize very quickly that not only are you staring down the cold, lifeless faces of friends and family, but that if you do not find a means to sustain yourself or escape from this place, you would soon be joining them.

This game is based around a continuous struggle against inevitability, survival is paramount and there are countless horrific secrets that lurk in the dark.

This was an original campaign of mine nearly twelve years ago, and rebranded now to use the Fate Accelerated system. Unlike typical Fate games, however, this campaign will be heavily stacked against you. Rolls and skill checks alone will not save you from the horrors that lie in store. Either you overcome the dangers of this sanctuary, or you will perish within it.
