Game Description

How do I tell the story of how this world came to be? Materia was born of an experiment that should not have worked, and it came to usher in the birth of a new age of clean energy that should never have been. It was if God himself came in and made a miracle... Alas, it was a pandora's box we wish we had never opened, and now we know not how to close it.

It was some of the most advanced technology what was our canary in the coal mine, no one could quiet explain why it had stopped functioning... Soon cars, planes, trains and other forms of technology just started to fail, one after the other until we were reduced to this... poor disheveled masses without even the most basic of creature comforts.

Food was scarce, travel became difficult to impossible, medicines that once worked now no longer healed the sick and wounded... Billions died that first year. I know, it is hard to remember that our numbers were once so vast, but it is true. The new age gave birth to new peoples, changed by unknown forces... They took on new names as they left humanity behind. Mithra, moogle, elvaan, galka, dwarf, and many other subspecies that I can not recount. Creatures of the wild changed too, usually for the worst mind you... But change they did.

It was a hundred years ago that magic appeared. True magic, like the kind our ancestors spoke of only in legend and fairy tale. Maybe it had always been here, lost below the surface in a world ruled by science and technology... Maybe it too holds a darker fate for those who use it like the materia that man made. Only time will tell.

Our story is set in the small fishing village called Issaquah, in the King's County. It had once been a sleepy suburb of a number of other cities... But it survived while others failed because it had good farm land and a revived salmon population. Home to about a thousand people, it was large enough to call a proper city rather then many of the small towns that populated this part of the world.

Now enough with setting this stage, it is time to introduce our cast of players. For it is they that will change this world for better or for worse... They just do not realize it yet.
