Game Description

http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r.../metrocity.jpg

A year or more ago, I tried to run a game called Metro City Blues. It was a free form street fighting combat. However,
my system was far from perfect. My own inability to design the rules well led to game failure, but I have recently discovered a new system, Fight! Thanks to Crossmalaki and Redstar. I am now going to run a game using modified Fight! rules to get back good old beat em up PBP game!

Things has gotten worse in Metro City. As far as you could remember, things were never perfect. There were gangs, and then they got more bold and vicious when the cops couldn't fight them off. But when you were just walking back and forth on that same stretch of pavement five months ago, you remember seeing a guy dressed in some crazy outfit beating up these gang bangers. He even walked over, stood in front of you as if he expects you to say something, and you did. "I wish someone would do something about these gangs." You said. The man didn't reply to your comment, and simply went back beating gangsters. You had a sense that he was a hero of some kind, some guy with a special past, and that one day, he is going to fight his way to the Big Boss. When the Big Boss goes down, the gang violence will stop and you can finally stop standing at this street corner telling people how you wished the city was a safer place. That's right, you are a NPC, you do what you were born to do, fill in that little piece of the story meant for some other greater purpose. You are not there to question why toasted turkey comes out of breaking oil barrels and crates, or why eating a slice of pizza heals wounds. Still though, Metro City is your city, and you have a special love for your home town.

When you saw the Big Boss go down in the news papers, the heroes disappeared into the sun set but soon went his merry another different gang showed up at Metro City. The new gang was even meaner and more evil than the first gang. A new group of stranger came to town to vanquish the evil, but the cycle just keep repeating. Even though you say the same lines when a hero approaches you, deep down inside you are losing hope. One day you had a dream, you saw the city burn in flames, the word "Continue?" flashed before you as a number counts down. You look to the left and it says "Insert Quarter" but you pad your pockets and can't find any loose change. Paralyzed by fear you scream in terror as the count down hits 0.
You awaken in your bed, at home. You can't remember the last time you saw the inside of your own home but you always knew you had one. You decide to get up and wipe the sweat from your face, it was then you realize you are not walking around in a predetermined pattern.

Something tells you that something intrinsic about you changed, whether it was fate you are not sure. Although as you look in the mirror, you still see a palette shifted person who doesn't quite fit the concept of a "PC". You are cookie cutter, the 99%, without flair and completely generic, but you have free will. Something deep within you urge you to walk out of your house to look around. As your hand reach for the door, you feel like the future will be unlike anything you have seen in the past.

For better or worse, Metro city will never be the same.

About the Game

Metro City Revolution is a game based on all the side scrolling beat-em up games in that generic non-descript city you used to play in the 90's and early 2000's. Golden Axe, Street of Rage, Final Fight, Double Dragon, Captain Commando, River City Ransom are some of the most famous ones. I like to use the Fight! system, with some small modifications of course.

The story assume that your characters are NPCs who may or may not be PCs. As you are gifted with the emblem of protagonists, you start out rather non-descript. You won't have an elaborate backstory, this is something you have to build your own legend!

Here are some things for the players:

You should love creative writing. Creating combos and wiping the floor with badguy should be a fun writing experiment.

"How Many Players?" I am accepting 2-4 players. Most fighting games cannot have more than 4 players. I need a name, no last names please.

Three adjectives that describe your character's personality: Lazy? Boring? Overbearing? you can have positive attributes too!

Outside of fighting bad guys, you character should have a day job. What do you do in Metro City?

Any fighting styles your character draws inspiration from (TaiKwanDo, Karate, ProWrestling, Judo...etc)

There will be no thug thrashing. you are out to kick butt, and for new players, even thugs poses serious threat.

Imagine you are like a lv 1 thug who receive some powers, now you have 3 moves, which is vastly better than
most starting thugs, but you are still just a thug level fighter. The difference is, enemy thugs can't spend FS to improve their defense or attack, their throws do not gain the accuracy bonus and does not cost FS.

You start the game only with a +1 to strength, initiative, control or stamina, you will get bonuses later.

No glory gaining from moves, I like to keep character level even in the party, so glory will be awarded post match like XP

Instead taunt is the same as refocus, which gains you back more fighting spirit.

You can't start the game with any move that has the area, explosive, bomb, ranged... elements. No fireball throwing at lv 1.

There will not be a free basic throw or free sweep kick to start, yes throws are unblockable.

In term of the choice of elements you have to pick from, you will have to pick 3 elements. You may choose any liability, but
elements to build moves you pick 3. So you can pick for example: Mobile, Knockdown and Always do Damage. You starting moves can only contain elements from that list. Every level you gain, you get more elements to design new moves to reflect improvement through experience and training.

There will be new qualities that will help you get props, Metro city is full of knives, metal pipes, batons and crates you can pick up and throw. Environmental hazards are real and you can get a lot of props mid fight. There will also be NEW qualities that will allow you to start with a weapon. Of course you know that weapons can be knocked out of your hands and the bad guy can pick it up too!
